WooCommerce – Bulk Edit Product Short Description Quickly

When you create a WooCommerce store for a client, it’s normal to create products without having all the information. Maybe the client only gave you the product title, price, and images.

So later, when you receive all the product information, you have to edit every product to edit every field.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to bulk edit the product short description quickly using a spreadsheet. We’ll show you how to edit individual descriptions in just some minutes, and use a tool to edit all the short descriptions at once.

When you open the tool, you will see a spreadsheet that contains all your products with all their information.

Add short descriptions to individual products

Adding short descriptions to individual products is really easy.

a) Locate the Short description column

To locate the cell, just move the horizontal bar to the right and look for the column.

b) Choose the products you want to edit

c) Write a short description

In this case, we’re going to add a short description to the books and e-books.

As you can see, there are four products with that parameter. So, we just have to write the description.

After writing all the descriptions, you just need to hit the Save button, and that’s it.

Edit the descriptions on all products containing a keyword

In this example, we’ll show you how you can add short descriptions to products containing the keyword Jeans.

a) Open the “Bulk edit” tool

This option is the one that helps you apply changes to hundreds or even thousands of products at once, and that way save lots of hours.

b) Open the search tool

For this, select the “I want to search rows to update” option in the “Select the rows that you want to update” dropdown.

c) Look for the keyword

For this, you need to enter the keyword in the Contains keyword field. Then, you just hit the Run search button.

After that, you need to set these values to add a short description

• Choose the “Short description” column to edit
• Select “Set value” in the “type of edit” field.
• Write a short description of your products.
• Hit the “Execute now” button.

Add short descriptions to products by category, attribute, or tag

If you want to add, for example, a short description to all the products within the Technology category, you just need to follow some simple steps. Remember that, even though we’re filtering the products by category, you can look for the attribute or the tag.

a) Open the “Bulk Edit” tool

This tool helps you apply changes to thousands of products with just a few clicks, so you need to open it by clicking it on the toolbar that is above the spreadsheet.

b) Open the Search tool

Select the “I want to search rows to update” option in the “Select the rows that you want to update” dropdown.

c) Look for the category, attribute or tag of the product you want to edit

You can do this by writing the product category in the “Enter Product category…” field.

d) Add the short description to these products

After running the search, you need to set the following values to add short descriptions to your products:

• Choose the “Short Description” column to edit
• Select “Set value”
• Write a short description of your products.
• Hit the Execute now button.

Add short descriptions to downloadable products

If you want to add a short description to all downloadable products, you need to follow these simple steps:

a) Open the “Bulk Edit” tool

This tool will help you apply changes to thousands of products at once.

b) Filter the products

Select the “I want to search rows to update” option in the “Select the rows that you want to update” dropdown.

c) Look for the downloadable products

Once you open the “Select rows” tool, you need to enable the advanced filters by checking their checkbox and then set these values:

• Write “_downloadable” in “Field key”.
• Select the “Equal” sign in Operator.
• Check the “Value” checkbox.
• Hit the “Run search” button.

d) Add the short description to these products

After running the search, you need to set the following values to add short descriptions to your products:

• Choose the “Short Description” column to edit
• Select “Set value”
• Write a short description of your products.
• Hit the “Execute now” button.
