Do you have many WooCommerce products missing description and short description? Do you want to save a lot of time writing descriptions for hundreds of products in a few seconds?
You can do it using any AI extension for Google Sheets!
So, in this tutorial, we will show you how to generate WooCommerce product descriptions easily with AI in Google Sheets and how to import AI-generated product descriptions from Google Sheets to WordPress.
This is what you will need in order to generate and import product descriptions and short descriptions from Google Sheets:
1- WP Sheet Editor
This plugin allows you to view and manage your WooCommerce products in a spreadsheet within WordPress.
It contains advanced search, bulk edit, export and import tools. You can save hundreds of hours managing your products easily.
You can download the plugin here: Download WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet Plugin - or - Check the features
2- Google Sheets Sync
This is a service that allows you to export and import content between your WordPress site and your Google Sheets account.
You can export and import posts, pages, products, events, taxonomy terms, etc.
You can sign up to the service here:
Sign up to the Google Sheets Sync Service - or - Check the features
3- Any AI add-on for Google Sheets
There are many add-ons for Google Sheets that can help you generate product descriptions and short descriptions.
In this example, we are going to use the GPT for Sheets™ and Docs™ extension, but you can use any other add-on.
Step 1. Connect WordPress to Google Sheets
When you sign up to the Google Sheets Sync service, you’ll get a helper plugin that will allow you to connect your WordPress site to your Google Sheets account, to the Google API, and to the WP Sheet Editor API.
Follow this guide to do it.
Step 2. Export your WooCommerce products to Google Sheets
The first thing we will do is to export the products for which we want to generate AI descriptions in Google Sheets.
In this case, all our products are missing descriptions, so we are going to export them all.
You need to start by opening the Export tool.
Select these values in order to export your WooCommerce products to Google Sheets:
- What columns do you want to export: In this example, we will export some selected columns only (Name, Description, Short description).
- Which rows do you want to export: All the rows from my current search.
- What app will you use to edit this file: Google Sheets
- Name of this export: Add a name here, and this will be the name of your Google Sheet.
- Click on Start new export.
Now you need to click on the View Google Sheet link to view the Google Sheet generated by this export.
As you can see below, we have exported the selected data of our WooCommerce products to Google Sheets.
Now we can start generating product descriptions with AI in Google Sheets.
Step 3. Generate WooCommerce product descriptions with AI in Google Sheets
Now, using your favorite artificial intelligence add-on for Google Sheets, you can start generating your WooCommerce product descriptions.
For example, we are going to generate 200-word descriptions for the “Description/Content” field, which is the field for the long/full description of our products.
Also, based on the full description of our products, we will ask our AI add-on to generate short descriptions of 30 words in the “Short description” field.
After generating the first description and the first short description of our products, we only have to autofill in all the rows we want the descriptions to be generated, and the artificial intelligence will do its magic for all the products we want to edit.
In this way, you can generate product descriptions in bulk for hundreds or thousands of products.
Once you’re done generating the product descriptions, you’ll be ready to import the AI-generated product descriptions from Google Sheets into WordPress.
Step 4. Import AI-generated WooCommerce product descriptions from Google Sheets
In WP Sheet Editor, you can start by opening the Import tool.
Now you need to select these values in the Import tool:
- Source: Google Sheets
- Google Sheet file: Select the Google Sheet where you generated your product descriptions. If you don’t find the file, you can refresh the list.
- Click on Next.
In this example, we will Import all the columns, but you can Select individual columns to import if you want.
We will Update existing items, ignore new items, and we’ll match the products using the record_id/ID fields.
Let’s click on Next.
Finally, we’ll see a preview of the data.
If everything is OK, we need to click on The preview is fine, start import.
Once the import process is completed, we will see that our products now have descriptions and short descriptions.
As you can see, generating product descriptions automatically using artificial intelligence is possible using Google Sheets and any artificial intelligence add-on that allows us to generate texts.
The best thing is that WP Sheet Editor and Google Sheets Sync allow you to connect your WordPress website to your Google Sheets account so you don’t have to waste any more time, but easily import your product descriptions with a few clicks.
