WooCommerce Import Products with Images – Easy Guide

Do you want to add many products to your WooCommerce store quickly? This guide will show you how to WooCommerce import products with images in a few easy steps. You don’t need to be a tech expert. Just follow along, and you’ll save time by uploading everything at once using a CSV file. It’s perfect if you’re starting a new store or updating your existing products.

Adding products without images can take a lot of time. After you upload the products, you still need to go back and open each one to upload the product images by hand. This is slow and can get boring, especially if you have many products. You might also make mistakes, like choosing the wrong image or forgetting to add one. It’s not fun, and it’s easy to get tired or confused.

Luckily, there’s a faster and easier way. In this guide, we’ll show you how to import products with featured images using a powerful plugin called WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products. This tool lets you import products and images all at once, using a simple spreadsheet inside WordPress. You don’t need to open each product or upload images one by one. WP Sheet Editor works perfectly with WooCommerce and helps you manage your products in bulk. It’s the best solution if you want to import many products with images without wasting time.

Once you install the plugin and activate your license, follow the steps in the sections below to import products with featured image into WooCommerce.

Step 1. Prepare your CSV containing the products

You need to create a CSV file containing all your product details. This file serves as the blueprint for importing products into your WordPress site.

Your CSV should include at least the following columns:

  • Product name: The title of the product.
  • SKU: A unique identifier for each product (must match the image filenames).
  • Description: A full product description (optional but recommended).
  • Price: The regular price of the product.

Here’s a sample CSV that you can use to import your products data.

Important: Your products don’t need to have any data in the Images column right now. We will import the products and only once they’re imported will we assign the product images.

As you can see below, our products have SKU, but they don’t have any value in the Images column.

Step 2. Import products using the CSV file

We have no products in our WooCommerce store, so we will create all the products as new.

If you already have the products in your WooCommerce store and want to upload and assign product images in bulk, you can skip to Step 3 and Step 4 of this guide.

Let’s open the products’ spreadsheet by going to WP Sheet Editor > Edit products.

Now let’s open the Import tool.

Step 3. Upload the images to the WordPress media library

To ensure product images are imported correctly, the first step is to upload all image files to your WordPress Media Library.

Important: Each image file must be named exactly after the product’s SKU.

For example, if a product has the SKU my-shirt-1, the corresponding image should be named:

  • my-shirt-1.jpg
  • my-shirt-1.png
  • Or any other standard image format (e.g., .webp, .jpeg)

This naming convention allows WordPress to correctly match images to products.

As you can see, our image file names have that format:

Please, make sure your image files have the same name as the SKU.

Step 4. Assign product images in bulk

Now it’s time to assign the images to the products and variations. To do this, we will use the Bulk Edit tool, which allows you to edit any field on thousands of products with a few clicks.

In this case, it allows us to assign the images based on the product SKU.

Once you open the Bulk Edit tool, you need to select these values to complete the import products with image process:

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
  • What field do you want to edit: Featured Image
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • File URL: $_sku$.png
    • Make sure you use the right file extension (.png, .jpg, etc.)
  • Click Execute Now.

With the $_sku$.jpg value in the File Name field, the plugin will search on the filename of the images you uploaded and match them with the product SKUs to add the right images to the products.
