Tired of spending countless hours manually writing post excerpts for your WordPress website? Imagine having to write individual summaries for hundreds or even thousands of posts, each one requiring your time and attention. That’s hard and time-consuming!
Fortunately, there are solutions that can help you save a lot of time and effort. One of these solutions is autogenerating WordPress blog posts using AI. You can automate the process of generating post excerpts, simplifying your workflow and freeing up time for other important tasks.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to autogenerate WordPress post excerpts in Microsoft Excel 365. Say goodbye to the tedious task of manual excerpt writing and hello to a more efficient and effective way of managing your content.
What you need to autogenerate post excerpts with AI
In order to autogenerate post excerpts with artificial intelligence, you will need these 3 things:
1- WP Sheet Editor – Post Types
This plugin allows you to view and manage posts, pages, products, and custom post types using an intuitive spreadsheet on WordPress.
It contains advanced search and bulk edit tools to help you save time, as well as export and import tools that allow you to increase your productivity.
You can download the plugin here: Download Posts, Pages, and Custom Post Types Spreadsheet Plugin - or - Check the features
2- A Microsoft Excel 365 account
In order to use Excel and install artificial intelligence plugins / add-ins, you need a Microsoft Excel 365 account.
3- Any AI add-in for Microsoft Excel 365
To create the excerpts of your blog posts automatically with artificial intelligence, you can install and use any add-in in Excel 365.
In this example, we will use the “GPT for Excel Word” add-in, but you can use any other add-in.
Step 1. Open the WordPress posts spreadsheet
After installing WP Sheet Editor on your site, go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit posts to open the WordPress posts spreadsheet.
You’ll see all your posts displayed in the spreadsheet.
As you can see in the screenshot below, our posts don’t have excerpts, so we’ll autogenerate the excerpts using AI.
Step 2 (optional). Search for all WordPress posts missing excerpts
If you only want to export posts that have no excerpt, you can easily filter all posts missing excerpt.
Just open the “Search” tool.
Now tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox and select these values:
- Field: Excerpt
- Operator: =
- Value: Leave this field empty.
Once you’ve selected the search terms, click on Run search.
As you can see below, we have filtered all the posts missing excerpt. You can see the active filters above the spreadsheet.
Step 3. Export your posts to a CSV file
After filtering all the posts missing excerpts, you can proceed to export them to a CSV file that later you’ll edit with Microsoft Excel 365.
To do this, let’s start by opening the Export tool.
Now select these values:
- What columns do you want to export: Select the columns you’ll export.
- Which rows do you want to export: All the rows from my current search.
- What app will you use to edit this file: Microsoft Excel (Office 365)
- Name of this export: You can add a name for this export.
- Click on Start new export.
After downloading the CSV file to your computer, you need to open the file with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel).
As you can see below, we have downloaded a CSV file containing all our WordPress posts missing Excerpt.
Step 4. Generate WordPress post excerpts with AI in Microsoft Excel 365
You can use your favorite add-in in Excel 365 to auto-generate the post excerpts.
Basically, what you need to do is ask the AI add-in to summarize the text of the post Content column, using a specific number of words.
Please note that the prompt/function that you should enter in the Excerpt column boxes will depend on the AI plug-in you are using in Microsoft Excel 365.
As you can see below, we have generated post excerpt automatically for all our WordPress posts using AI.
Once you’re done, you need to download the sheet as a CSV file.
To do this, go to Export > Download this sheet as CSV in Excel 365.
Step 5. Import AI-generated post excerpts into WordPress
Once you’re ready, you can start importing your AI-generated post excerpts from a CSV into your WordPress site.
Let’s start by opening the Import tool.
Now you need to select these values in the Import tool:
- Source: CSV file from my computer
- Click on Choose File and select the CSV file from your computer.
- Click on Next.
In this example, we will Import all the columns, but you can Select individual columns to import if you want.
We will Update existing items, ignore new items and match the rows using the record_id and ID columns.
Finally, you’ll see a preview.
If everything is OK, you need to click on The preview is fine, start import.
Now that we have imported the CSV file containing AI-generated excerpts, you can see that our WordPress posts are no longer missing excerpt.
Using Microsoft Excel 365 to autogenerate post excerpts for your WordPress website and importing the excerpts with WP Sheet Editor can improve your content management process.
We’re sure you’ll save countless hours of manual labor and significantly increase your productivity.
