So that you can do everything from the WordPress admin dashboard, you will receive a helper plugin that will allow you to connect your WordPress site to your Google account, to the Google API, and to the WP Sheet Editor API.
You can follow this guide to learn how to do it.
Once you have connected your WordPress site to your Google Sheets account via WP Sheet Editor, you can follow the steps below to export post translations to Google Sheets.
1- Translate posts with WPML and WP Sheet Editor (optional)
In case you have not yet translated your posts individually using WPML, you can use WP Sheet Editor to create the translations of your posts easily.
Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit posts.
You can follow this tutorial we have prepared to guide you step by step on how to create hundreds of WPML translations at once.
2- Select the language of the translations to be exported
WP Sheet Editor will display the posts in the spreadsheet, depending on the WPML language you select.
For example, if you select the English language, the spreadsheet will show you the English language posts only.
But if you select another language like Spanish or Italian, the posts displayed in the spreadsheet will be according to the selected language.
If you pay attention to these two screenshots, you will notice that the number of rows displayed on the spreadsheet varies according to the language. This happens because we have not translated all the posts from English to Spanish. However, if you have translated all the content, the number of rows in both languages will be the same.
3- Export WPML translations to Google Sheets
Once you have decided which WPML language you want to export to Google Sheets, you can proceed to export the translations to Google Sheets.
In this example, we will first export the English posts to Google Sheets.
For this, we need to open the Export tool.
Now we need to select the following values in the Export tool:
- What columns do you want to export: You have three options here:
- Type specific column names
- Select all active columns
- Select all the columns, including disabled columns
- Which rows do you want to export: In this case, we will export all the rows.
- What app will you use to edit this file: You need to select Google Sheets here.
- Name of this export: You can add a name for this export, and the Google Sheet will inherit this name.
- Click on Start new export.
Once the export process is completed, you will see the View Google Sheet link. If you click on it, you’ll open the Google Sheet that has been generated.
As you can see here, we have exported our English WPML translations to Google Sheets.
If we change the WPML language in the spreadsheet, we can proceed to export post translations in another language to Google Sheets.
For example, we will select the Spanish language to export the Spanish translations.
Again, we need to open the Export tool and configure the export, just as we did in with the English translations.
When we have completed the translation export process, we will be able to open our Google Sheet file, which will contain the WPML translations we selected to export.
In order to export language-specific WPML post translations to Google Sheets, you just need to connect your WordPress site to Google, select the WPML language in which you want the WP Sheet Editor spreadsheet to display the posts, and export to Google Sheets.
This way, you can save your WPML translations to Google Sheets with a few clicks.
