Custom Post Type Maker is a WordPress plugin that allows you to create custom post types and custom taxonomies. You can create different content types for your WordPress site. That’s great, but there’s a downside when it comes to editing large amounts of content.
It is not Custom Post Type Maker’s fault. The problem is that WordPress search options and bulk actions are too limited. Therefore, in this tutorial we are going to show you how to bulk edit the content you have created with Custom Post Type Maker, using an intuitive spreadsheet within WordPress.
This is possible with the WP Sheet Editor plugin.
It allows you to manage WordPress posts, pages, and custom post types created with plugins like Custom Post Type Maker, using an intuitive spreadsheet on the WordPress dashboard. As we will show you, this plugin allows advanced search filters, bulk editing, exporting and importing content.

After installing and activating WP Sheet Editor, you can follow the steps in the sections below to bulk edit Custom Post Type Maker content using a spreadsheet.
1- Set up a spreadsheet for your Custom Post Type Maker content
Let’s move on from this classic (boring and tedious) WordPress view…
To a spreadsheet view where you can bulk edit content easily as if you were doing it with Excel or Google Sheets.
For this, we need to go to WP Sheet Editor → Setup spreadsheet.
Once there, let’s select the post type we want to edit with the spreadsheet. For this example, we have created a custom post type called “Lyrics”.
After selecting the post type, click on Save.
Now you need to select the columns (fields) you want to include in the spreadsheet.
Note → WP Sheet Editor works with custom fields plugins like Advanced Custom Fields and others. Every column will work according to the field type.
If you don’t want to view a specific column in the spreadsheet, move it from the Enabled to the Enabled group.
Once done, click on Save.
2- Advanced search for Custom Post Type Maker
WP Sheet Editor allows you to use any field and custom field as a search filter. This is great because you can apply any search field in the spreadsheet, and even combine several search terms.
You need to click on Search to open the tool.
On the search tool, you will have several search filters to find specific groups of posts.
Search example 1
We have created a custom taxonomy with Custom Post Type Maker, and we can use it as a search filter.
This custom taxonomy is called “Music genre”, so we can filter our posts by music genre or using any other native or custom taxonomy.
We just need to enter the music genre in the taxonomy field and click on Run search.
After filtering our posts by custom taxonomy, all the posts matching the search filter will be displayed on the spreadsheet.
The active search filters will be displayed above the spreadsheet.
Search example 2
The Search tool allows you to use advanced search filters to use any field or column as a search parameter.
In this example, we will use a field that we have added with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin as a search filter.
This is an image field called “Lyrics image”, and we’ll use it to find all the posts missing image.
For this, we just need to tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
Now we need to select these values:
- Field: Lyrics image
- Operator: =
- Value: Leave this field empty.
After selecting the values, let’s click on Run search.
Once we run the search, we will see all the posts matching the search terms displayed in the spreadsheet.
3- Easy bulk editing for Custom Post Type Maker
WP Sheet Editor allows you to bulk manage your Custom Post Type Maker content.
Just as you can use any field as a search filter, you can bulk edit any field into hundreds or thousands of items.
This saves you many hours of work, because you no longer have to open many pages to edit your content, nor do you have to make too many clicks.
With a few clicks, you can apply bulk changes to thousands of custom posts. You can edit all the content, all the results of a specific search (like the ones we showed you in the previous section), or edit all the posts you select manually.
For this, you need to open the Bulk Edit tool.
In this tutorial, we will show you two bulk edit examples, but you can apply thousands of bulk changes by bulk editing any field.
Bulk edit example 1
In this example, we are going to edit a taxonomy field called “Music genre”, and we are going to assign a new music genre to replace the current genre.
For this, we need to select these values:
- Select the rows that you want to update: You can edit all rows, all rows from a specific search, or all manually selected rows.
- What field do you want to edit: In this case, we will edit the Music genre field.
- Select type of edit: We will set a new value.
- We will replace the existing terms with these terms: Here we need to enter the new terms separated by commas. If you want to add hierarchy, you need to use the “>” sign. Example: Parent > Child > Child.
- Click on Execute now.
Bulk edit example 2
In this example, we will edit an image field that we have added with the ACF plugin. It’s called “Lyrics image” and it’s an image field.
We need to select these values:
- Select the rows that you want to update: You can edit all rows, all rows from a specific search, or all manually selected rows.
- What field do you want to edit: In this case, we will edit the Lyrics image field.
- Select type of edit: We will set a new value.
- We will replace the existing media with this file: We can use the Upload the file button to upload a new image / select an image from the media library, or we can paste the image URL in the File URL field.
- Click on Run search.
