In this tutorial, we will show you how to quickly disable WooCommerce variations in bulk using WP Sheet Editor. Some methods may suggest you to assign the “Private” status to specific product variations in order to disable them. However, in this tutorial, you’ll learn how to enable or disable variations using a checkbox.
Here are some reasons why you might need to disable product variations:
- If certain product variations are only available seasonally or for a limited time, bulk disabling them allows you to quickly remove these options without permanently deleting them. This makes it easy to re-enable them when they’re back in stock or relevant again.
- Managing inventory becomes simpler when you disable variations that are out of stock or no longer available.
- Disabling certain variations allows you to test which products are performing best. By analyzing the impact of these changes, you can make more informed decisions about your product catalog.
We’ll use the WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products plugin, which allows you to view and manage your WooCommerce products and variations using an intuitive spreadsheet on WordPress.
You can download the plugin here:

After installing the plugin on your WordPress website and installing your license, you need to follow the steps in the sections below in order to bulk disable WooCommerce variations.
First, you need to go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit products to open the products’ spreadsheet. You’ll view all your products displayed on the spreadsheet. Every row is a product and every column is a field.
Option 1: Disable variations individually
The first thing we are going to show you is how to disable variations individually, using the spreadsheet. This is great if you want to disable different variations on multiple products.
For this, we can start by clicking on Display variations, which will allow us to view the product variations next to their parent products.
As you can see, the variations are displayed on the spreadsheet next to their parent product.
To disable product variations, you need to move to the “Variation enabled?” column.
Once there, you need to uncheck the checkbox in every variation you want to disable.
Checked means the variation is enabled; unchecked means the variation is disabled.
Once you’re done editing all the variations you want, you need to click on Save to apply the changes.
As you can see, we have disabled these two variations:
- Large, black
- Large, red
Therefore, if we select the Large size attribute on the product page, we won’t be able to select neither the Black nor the Red color because these variations are disabled.
The same will happen in all other variations you have blocked or disabled.
Option 2: Bulk disable WooCommerce variations
The second option we want to show you is how to disable product variations in bulk.
We can search for all variations that contain specific attribute terms and disable those variations.
For example, if we want to disable all variations containing the Black color and the Small size.
To do this, let’s start by opening the Search tool, which allows us to search for WooCommerce products using any field as a search filter.
In this example, we will search for all variations containing the Black color and the Small size, so let’s select these values in the Search tool:
- Enter product […] attributes: Black, Small
- Tick the Search on variations checkbox.
- Click on Run search.
After running the search, you’ll see all the product variations matching the search terms displayed on the spreadsheet.
You can see all the active search filters above the spreadsheet.
Now you need to open the Bulk Edit tool in order to disable all the selected variations.
Once you’re in the Bulk Edit tool, you need to select the following values to disable the variations:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
- What field do you want to edit: Variation enabled
- Select type of edit: Set value
- Replace existing value with this value: Uncheck this checkbox.
- Select the Edit only variations option.
- Click on Execute Now.
Disabling product variations in bulk or individually using the spreadsheet is easy with WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products. You can enable or disable variations that are out of stock, contain specific product attributes, etc. You can save a lot of time and improve your productivity.
