Let’s see how to bulk delete default attributes from variable products in WooCommerce.
Default attributes in WooCommerce are used specifically for variable products to pre-select a particular variation when the product is viewed by the customer. These attributes set the default choice for variations like size, color, or any other product attribute that is part of the variation setup.
When a customer views a variable product, the default attributes automatically select a specific variation.
For instance, let’s say you own a clothing store selling a T-shirt available in various sizes (small, medium, large) and colors (red, blue, green). You can set the default attributes to be medium and red. When a customer views this T-shirt product, the medium size and red color will be pre-selected. This could simplify the purchasing decision for customers who may prefer these options, or help guide those who are unsure of their choice.
Now let’s say you have set default attributes on hundreds or thousands of products in your WooCommerce store, and now you want to remove those values from all products, so that when your customers view your variable products, there are no longer any preset attributes.
This is not possible with WooCommerce, but in this tutorial we will show you how to bulk remove default attributes from your variable products with a few clicks, using the WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products plugin.
This plugin allows you to view and edit WooCommerce products in an intuitive spreadsheet within WordPress. You can do advanced searches, apply bulk changes on thousands of products, export and import product data using CSV files, etc.

After installing and activating the plugin, follow these steps in order to bulk remove the default attributes from your WooCommerce variable products.
1- View your WooCommerce products in the spreadsheet
To open the spreadsheet, go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit products.
You’ll see a spreadsheet containing your products and their complete data.
2- Search for variable products
The Search tool allows you to filter your WooCommerce products using any field as a search parameter.
In this case, it will help us find the variable products in order to bulk remove the default attribute data from them.
After opening the Search tool, you need to enter the Variable product type and click on Run search.
Note – If you want to bulk delete default attributes from variable products by keyword, attribute, category, tag, shipping class, price, date, etc., you can use the other fields provided by the Search tool.
Once you’ve filtered your WooCommerce variable products, they will be displayed on the spreadsheet. You can view the active search filters above the products’ data.
3- Bulk delete default attributes from WooCommerce variable products
Now it’s time to bulk remove the default attributes’ data from the filtered variable products at once.
For this, you need to open the Bulk Edit tool.
Once you open the bulk editor, you need to select these values to delete the default attributes in bulk:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search
- What field do you want to edit: Default attributes
- Select type of edit: Clear value
- Select the Edit only parent products option.
- Click on Execute now.
As you can see, deleting the default attributes from the variable products is really simple if you use the WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products plugin.
