WooCommerce – How to Export, Import, and Bulk Edit Products

This is a quick guide on how to bulk edit WooCommerce products, as well as how to export and import products using CSV files.

WooCommerce is amazing. We can better our lives and our customers’ by selling amazing products online using this great WP plugin. You can see reports, create discount coupons, create products, etc.

When it comes to bulk editing products or doing advanced searches, WooCommerce falls short. But we have a great solution. We’re talking about the WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet plugin.

With this tool, you can:

  • See your products on a spreadsheet
  • Do advanced searches in seconds
  • Duplicate products to create hundreds of copies
  • Export your products to a CSV file
  • Import products or changes using CSV files
  • Bulk edit products in seconds

Therefore, once you install and activate the plugin, go to Sheet Editor > Edit Products. You’ll see the spreadsheet containing all your products and their complete information.

Here’s how you can export, import and bulk edit your products using the spreadsheet:

Export products to a CSV file

You can quickly export all your products from WooCommerce to a CSV file. You need to start by clicking on Export on the plugin’s top toolbar.

Now you need to select the rows that you’ll export. For that, just select these values:

  • Click on Select all or select specific columns.
  • Tick the I understand it will export the posts from my current search checkbox.
  • OPTIONAL: Tick the I will edit this file with Microsoft Excel checkbox.
  • Click on Start new import to download your products to a CSV file.

Once you have the CSV on your computer, you can edit it with Excel or Google Sheets. For example, we can edit the values in the Backorders allowed column, save changes, and import the info back to WP.

Import products and changes from a CSV file

With the WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet, you can quickly import all your changes or new products using a CSV file.

The first step is to open the Import tool with one click on the toolbar.

Select the CSV file you’ll import. Just do this:

  • Source: CSV file from my computer
  • Click on Choose File and select the CSV file from your computer.
  • Click on Next.

Click on Import all the columns to go on.

Now you need to decide how you’ll import the products and match the CSV files with the WP files to make sure the info will be imported correctly. So just select these values:

  • Do you want to update or create items: Update existing items, ignore new items
  • Field 1: CSV Field: record_id
  • Field 1: WordPress Field: ID
  • Click on Next to go on.

Finally, you’ll be shown a preview to corroborate if the info will be imported correctly. If it’s fine, click on The preview is fine, start import.

Bulk edit products in seconds

You can quickly edit thousands of products using the Bulk Edit tool that the WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet includes.

It’s located on the toolbar, so you just need to open it with one click.

Now you can filter all the products you’ll edit. Just select the I want to search rows to update option in the Select the rows that you want to update dropdown.

This will open a search tool that allows you to search for your products by:

  • Keyword in title
  • Status
  • Category, attribute, tag
  • Variations
  • Date range
  • Etc.

Once you decide how you’ll search for your products, define the search parameters and click on Run search. For example, if you want to search for your products by keyword, just enter it in the Contains keyword field and click on Run search.

That will filter your products and take you back to the Bulk Edit fields for you to apply changes massively to all products filtered.

Let’s edit the Backorders allowed column for all the filtered products. For that, just select these values:

  • Select the rows that you want to update: I want to search rows to update
  • What field do you want to edit: Backorders allowed
  • Select type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this value: You’ll have these three options: Do not allow; Allow, but notify customer; Allow. You decide which option you’ll choose.
  • Click on Run search to apply the changes to all the filtered products.

Start saving a lot of time!

You can start saving a lot of time editing thousands of products on a CSV file, import them quickly to WooCommerce, or using the Bulk Edit tool.
