Toolset allows you to create dynamic content for your WordPress website. You can create any custom post types and add custom fields and metaboxes to them.

However, it’s really difficult when you want to edit hundreds of custom posts, so here we show you how to bulk edit custom posts, with special emphasis on how to bulk edit any meta box created with Toolset.

Just follow these simple steps to bulk edit Toolset custom post types:

1- Install the WP Sheet Editor plugin

Use an intuitive spreadsheet inside WordPress to:

2- Install the “WP Sheet Editor – Toolset” extension

Besides installing the plugin, you need to install the WP Sheet Editor – Toolset extension, which will add full compatibility between both plugins. All fields and post types will be correctly displayed in the spreadsheet.

3- Set up the spreadsheet for your Toolset custom post

Once you install and activate WP Sheet Editor, you need to set up the spreadsheet in which you’ll edit your Toolset custom post.

  • Go to WP Sheet Editor > Setup Spreadsheet.
  • Tick the post type you’ll edit in the spreadsheet. We’ve created a post type with Toolset called My Post Type for this example.
  • Click Save.

After selecting the post type you’ll edit, you need to configure the columns you want to see in the spreadsheet. Each column is a field, so you’ll see the normal WordPress fields and the custom fields and metaboxes you’ve created with Toolset.

  • Move the columns from the Enabled to the Disabled side.
  • Click Save.

After that, you’ll see the spreadsheet containing all the custom posts for the custom post type you selected.

  • Every row is a custom post.
  • Every column is a field or metabox.

If you right-scroll, you’ll see all the Toolset custom fields and metaboxes. We’ve created the following custom fields for our Toolset custom post type:

  • Date picker field
  • Checkbox field
  • Image field
  • Email field
  • Color picker field
  • Dropdown field

As you see, every field appears in the spreadsheet according to its type. Checkboxes as checkboxes, dropdowns as dropdowns, and so on.

4- How to search for custom post types in the spreadsheet

WP Sheet Editor contains a Search tool that allows you to filter your Toolset custom posts using any field/metabox as a search parameter. For example, you can search for all custom posts that have a specific color, a specific date, a specific option in a dropdown field, etc.

You can open the Search tool with one click.

Once you open the Search tool, you have lots of options to filter your Toolset custom posts. Here we show you the values you need to use to search for your custom posts using any field or metabox as a search filter.

a) Search for Toolset custom posts by author and category

WP Sheet Editor allows you to combine search filters, so for example you can easily search for all custom posts by author and category.

Just select these values:

  • Author: Select the author.
  • Enter Categories or Tags: Enter any category.
  • Click Run Search.

Once your custom posts are filtered, they will be displayed in the spreadsheet.

The active search filters will be displayed above the spreadsheet. This will happen every time you apply a new search filter.

b) Search for Toolset custom posts using dropdown fields as filters

You can use dropdown fields created with Toolset as search parameters.

Just select these values in the Search tool:

  • Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
  • Field: Select the dropdown field you want. As you see, we’ve called it Dropdown Field for this example.
  • Operator: =
  • Value: Select the dropdown option you want.
  • Click Run Search.

c) Search for Toolset custom posts with empty image fields

If you have created an image field with Toolset, you can search for your custom posts in which that field is empty.

Just select these values in the Search tool:

  • Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
  • Field: Select the image field you want.
  • Operator: =
  • Value: Leave this field empty.
  • Click Run Search.

d) Search for Toolset custom posts using checkbox fields as filters

These are the values you need to use to search for your Toolset custom posts using a checkbox field as a search filter:

  • Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
  • Field: Select the checkbox field.
  • Operator: =
  • Value: Yes/No.
  • Click Run Search.

e) Search for Toolset custom posts using date fields as filters

If you’ve created a date field with Toolset, you can use it as a search parameter. Just select these values:

  • Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
  • Field: Select the date field.
  • Operator: =
  • Value: Enter the date you want.
  • Click Run Search.

5- How to bulk edit Toolset custom posts

In addition to advanced searches, WP Sheet Editor allows you to bulk edit Toolset custom post types. You can apply massive changes and bulk update hundreds of custom posts with a few clicks.

How to select the custom posts you want to bulk edit

You have at least two options to select the custom posts you’ll bulk edit.

First, you can bulk edit the search results. Once you filter the custom posts, open the Bulk Edit tool.

Second, you can manually pick the custom posts you’ll edit. For this, WP Sheet Editor contains a checkbox picker in the first column.

Once you select the custom posts, open the Bulk Edit tool.

Whatever option you select, you can apply bulk updates to all the selected Toolset custom posts. Here are some examples of the values you need to bulk edit your custom posts.

a) How to bulk edit dropdown fields

To assign a new dropdown option to all the selected custom posts, you need to select these values in the Bulk Edit tool:

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet
  • What field do you want to edit: Select the Dropdown Field you want to edit.
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this value: Select the new option.
  • Click Execute Now.

b) How to bulk edit image fields

If you want to add an image to all the selected custom posts, you need to select these values in the Bulk Edit tool:

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet
  • What field do you want to edit: Select the image field you want to edit.
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this value: Enter the image URL.
  • Click Execute Now.

c) How to bulk edit color picker fields

You can bulk edit color picker fields created with Toolset. Just select these fields:

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet
  • What field do you want to edit: Select the color picker field you want to edit.
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this value: Enter color code.
  • Click Execute Now.

d) How to bulk edit checkbox fields

With WP Sheet Editor, you can easily bulk enable or disable any checkbox field. Just select these values:

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet
  • What field do you want to edit: Select the checkbox field you want to edit.
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this value: Enable/disable.
  • Click Execute Now.

e) How to bulk edit date fields

This is how you can bulk edit date fields created with Toolset.

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet
  • What field do you want to edit: Select the date field you want to edit.
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this value: Select the date using the calendar.
  • Click Execute Now.
