WooCommerce – How to Sort Hundreds of Attributes Quickly

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to sort WooCommerce attributes quickly and in one go by following a few steps.

Normally, you need to open the WooCommerce attributes and move the position of the attribute terms manually. However, we’ll show you how to do it in an easier way using an intuitive spreadsheet bulk editor.

For example, if you want the white color to appear first when customers want to select the color of the variation, you can change the sort order just by adding the number of the position in which you want that color.

You’ll be able to sort WooCommerce attributes because we’ll do it using the WP Sheet Editor – Taxonomy Terms plugin. It allows you to view and bulk edit any taxonomy like categories, attributes, tags, using an intuitive spreadsheet inside WordPress.

Once you install and activate the plugin, follow these steps to sort the WooCommerce product attributes.

1- Edit the default order method for the attribute you’ll configure

The first thing you need to do is to edit the Default Sort Order field for the attribute you are going to organize.

For example, if you want to order the Color attribute, then you have to go to Products > Attributes > Color and click on Edit.

When you open the color attribute, you have to select Name (Numeric) in the Default Sort Order field.

Then, just Update the attribute.

Optional: Bulk edit the Default Sort Order

If you want to edit other attributes like sizes or any other custom attributes, you need to change the Default Sort Order for all of them.

  1. Go WP Sheet Editor > Edit categories, tags, attributes, taxonomies.
  2. Click Edit WooCommerce Attributes to open the global attributes spreadsheet.

Open the WP sheet editor "WooCommerce Attributes" spreadsheet

Now go to the Default Sort Order column and enter Name (Numeric).

Finally, Save changes.

In this example, however, we’ll use the color attributes only.

2- Open the WooCommerce attributes spreadsheet

WP Sheet Editor – Taxonomy Terms creates a special spreadsheet for every taxonomy you have on your WordPress site. For example, you’ll have a spreadsheet for post categories and a spreadsheet for product categories, a spreadsheet for product colors and a spreadsheet for product sizes, and so on.

You can see all the spreadsheets available by going to WP Sheet Editor > Edit categories, tags, attributes, taxonomies.

You can see that the plugin shows you a button to open each spreadsheet:

  • Edit Categories
  • Edit Tags
  • Edit Product categories
  • Edit Product tags
  • Edit Product Color – We’ll use this spreadsheet for the example.
  • Edit Product Size
  • Edit WooCommerce Attributes

Open the WP Sheet Editor spreadsheet for the attribute you'll sort

You’ll see all the color terms displayed in the spreadsheet as rows. All the fields will be displayed as columns.

If you can’t see the Order column in the spreadsheet, you need to do the following:

  1. Hover over Settings.
  2. Click Scan DB to find fields.

This will reload the page and scan the database to find missing fields in the spreadsheet.

3- Sort WooCommerce attributes quickly using the spreadsheet

Finally, click Save to apply the changes.

That was really simple!

As you can see, editing the color order in WooCommerce is really easy. Just add the position number you want your colors to appear in and save changes. You can then reorder or reorganize the colors as you wish.

If you want to sort WooCommerce attributes such as sizes or any other custom attributes, you can also do it by following the same steps we’ve explained to you.
