In this post, we show you how to bulk edit the display name of users on WordPress.
Sometimes, users don’t set the display names at the moment of creating their accounts on our websites, especially if that field is not required in the create account form.
Their display names will be created automatically.
The same can happen when you import users.
The display names are created automatically by WordPress using numbers or using the values in the login field, and then you need to copy the first and last names to the Display name field.
If you modify users name one by one, you’ll have to spend a lot of time!
Therefore, in this post, we’ll show you how to do it quickly using the WordPress Users Spreadsheet plugin.
We’ll show you how to change the display names in a spreadsheet and how to automatically copy from first and last name to display name.

Once you install and activate the WordPress Users Spreadsheet, you need to follow the steps in the following sections to learn how to bulk edit the display name of users.
1- How to open the users’ spreadsheet
Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit Users.
You’ll see all the user profiles displayed in the spreadsheet.
Every row is a user profile and every column is a field.
2- How to edit the display name using the spreadsheet
If you want to change the display names individually using the spreadsheet, you can do it quickly.
For that, you just need to go to the Display Name column and modify the content in it for each user.
You can manually copy from the First Name and Last Name columns, just as you do in Excel or Google Sheets.
Once you’re done, click Save to apply the changes.
This is great because you can save a lot of time without opening user-profiles one by one, so you can save a lot of hours and clicks.
3- How to copy first and last names automatically to display name
You need to open the Bulk Edit tool, which will allow you to automatically copy the first and last names to the display name field.
After opening the Bulk Edit tool, you need to select the following values to copy the first and names to the display name field.
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search
- What field do you want to edit: Display name
- Select type of edit: Set Value
- Replace existing value with this value: $first_name$ $last_name$
- Click Execute Now.
Once you apply these values to the Display Name column, you’ll see that the first and last names have been copied:
As you can see, it’s really simple to bulk edit users display name using the WordPress Users Spreadsheet plugin.
You don’t have to open and update the user-profiles one by one because you can edit them all at once.
