External links are an excellent way to generate traffic in our content. We need to add links to other posts in most of our entries so that search engines can filter our content better.
The problem comes when we have to check thousands of posts to see if they have external links or not. For example, if you have 1500 posts on your blog, it will be super tedious to have to open and review them all. It will take you a long time that you could use on other important things.
That’s why we want to show you how to filter all your posts that don’t contain any links in their content. To do this, we will use a powerful spreadsheet in which you can apply changes massively and do advanced searches.
Just follow these simple steps.
1- Install the Posts, Pages, and Custom Post Types Spreadsheet plugin
With this plugin you can manage thousands of posts in just a few steps. You don’t have to open thousands of tabs in your browsers and spend hundreds of hours. You can apply changes massively in just seconds. You can also do advanced searches that will save you a lot of time.
You can download the plugin here: Download Posts, Pages, and Custom Post Types Spreadsheet Plugin - or - Check the features
Once installed and activated, go to Sheet Editor > Edit Posts in order to open the posts spreadsheet.
2- Open the “Search” tool to filter your posts
The search tool will help you filter your posts in seconds. You don’t need to open and check your posts one by one. You just need to click on Search on the plugin’s toolbar.
3- Search for all posts without links in their content
Once you open the Search tool, you need to tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox and select these values:
- Field key: Content
- Operator: NOT CONTAINS
- Value: https://
If you enter this link fragment, you’ll search for all posts without any links starting with https:// in their content.
Finally, just click on Run Search.
Done!
Now you can edit all your post contents. Just go to the Content column, double-click the posts you want, enter the links where you wish, and after you’ve edited all the posts you want, click on Save to apply all changes.
