Use this prompt to generate a search-facing title for a post:

Prompt for generating SEO descriptions

Use this prompt to generate a meta description:

The description should be engaging, summarize the key points of the post, and encourage reader interest. Keep it under 155 characters for optimal search engine visibility. Return plain text only.

Instead of retyping these prompts every time, you can save them as global prompts and call them with a simple shortcut.

Go to WP Sheet Editor > AI > Settings > Prompts, then click on Add new.

Now fill in the details for each prompt:

• Name: Add prompt names that are easy to remember, like “SEO Title” and “SEO Description”. This matters because, once you save, each prompt automatically generates a prompt slug you can use as a shortcut such as ai:seo-title or ai:seo-description.
• Prompt: Enter the prompt text here.
• Click on Save.

You need to create the two global prompts, one for titles and one for descriptions. After that, both shortcuts will be available anywhere in any WP Sheet Editor spreadsheet.

Open your WordPress posts spreadsheet

To start generating Yoast SEO titles and descriptions with AI, open the spreadsheet that contains your posts.

Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit posts, and you will see all your posts displayed in the spreadsheet, with each field in its own column.

If you prefer to work directly in the spreadsheet cells, you can trigger the AI with the ai:prompt-slug shortcut. This is the fastest way to generate metadata on a handful of rows without opening the Bulk Edit tool.

To generate SEO titles, enter the shortcut for your title prompt into the cells of the SEO Title column. In this example the prompt slug is “seo-title”, so the cell value is:

Note: You can also paste a full prompt directly into a cell instead of using a saved shortcut. For example:

The trade-off is that with full prompts you have to type or paste the whole text into every cell, which is why the saved shortcut is the more practical option for most work.

Once the shortcut is in place, the AI starts generating and you will see a loading icon in the cell for a few seconds while it works.

To generate titles for several posts at once, paste the same shortcut into multiple cells in the column. The AI processes each row that contains the shortcut.

If you would rather not work row by row in the spreadsheet, you can generate Yoast SEO data with AI using the Bulk Edit tool. This is the better route when you need to find and fix a large number of posts that are missing metadata all at once.

In this example, we show how to search for posts that are missing SEO titles and descriptions and then generate the missing values quickly.

Bulk generate SEO titles with AI

Start by searching for all the WordPress posts missing an SEO title. Open the Search tool.

Now select these values to find all posts without an SEO title:

• Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
• Field: SEO Title
• Operator: =
• Value: Leave this field empty
• Click on Run search.

After the search runs, you will see only the posts that lack an SEO title, with the active search filters shown above the spreadsheet.
