What are product dimensions in WooCommerce?

In WooCommerce, product dimensions refer to the physical measurements of a product, which typically include:

• Product weight: The mass of your product.
• Product width: The horizontal measurement of the product from side to side.
• Product height: The vertical measurement of the product from top to bottom.
• Product length: The measurement of the product from front to back.

Important: The dimensions of your WooCommerce products are not the same as the “Product Size” attributes. They are fields that WooCommerce provides by default for you to add the weight and measurements of your products.

Why are product dimensions so important?

WooCommerce product dimensions are essential for various reasons:

• Shipping calculations: Accurate dimensions are crucial for determining shipping costs, as carriers often base their rates on the weight and size of the packages.
• Inventory management: Knowing the dimensions helps in organizing storage space efficiently and managing inventory more effectively.
• Customer information: Providing precise product dimensions helps customers make informed purchasing decisions, reducing the likelihood of returns due to misunderstandings about product size.
• Shipping labels and documentation: Accurate dimensions ensure that shipping labels and other logistical documents are correctly filled out, reducing the risk of shipping errors.

How can I bulk edit product dimensions in WooCommerce?

By default, WooCommerce does not contain built-in features that allow you to edit product dimensions in bulk. If you want to edit the dimensions of a hundred products, you will have to open and edit the hundred products one by one, which will take you many hours.

Therefore, in this post, we will show you how to bulk edit the dimensions of your WooCommerce products using the WP Sheet Editor plugin.

This plugin allows you to view and manage your WooCommerce products using a spreadsheet on WordPress. You can bulk update product data, search for products using any field as a search filter, as well as export and import products using CSV files.

Once you have installed the plugin and activated your license, you can follow the steps below in order to bulk edit product dimensions in the spreadsheet.

Open the products spreadsheet

Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit products, and you’ll see all your WooCommerce products displayed on the spreadsheet.

Manage product dimensions in the spreadsheet

A very easy way to manage the dimensions of your WooCommerce products is to use the spreadsheet columns.

Just scroll to the right until you locate the Weight, Height, Length, and Width columns.

You can use the cells to update the dimensions of your products easily as if you were using Excel or Google Sheets. You can also autofill the cells below to make the process easier.

Once you are done editing the dimensions of your products, you can apply the changes by clicking on Save.

Search for products missing dimensions (weight, length, width, height)

With WP Sheet Editor, you can easily find products that do not have dimensions.

For this, you need to use the Search tool.

For example, if you want to know which products have no product weight, you can select these values:

• Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
• Field: Weight.
  • Note: This is just an example to find products missing weight, but here you could select any other dimension field like height, length, width.
• Operator: =
• Value: Leave this field empty.
• Click on Run search.

After running the search, you’ll see all the products missing the weight data displayed in the spreadsheet. You’ll see the active search filters displayed above the spreadsheet.

Now you can proceed to edit the products using the spreadsheet.

Bulk update product dimensions on hundreds of products at once

While you can use the spreadsheet to edit individual products in a simplified way, you can also use the Bulk Edit tool to update product dimension data across hundreds of products.

For example, you can use this to put the same weight on hundreds of products, the same length, the same height, etc.

In this case, we will show you the values you need to select in order to set the same product weight for all the products we filtered in the previous section:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
• What field do you want to edit: Weight
  • Note: This is just an example of how to edit the product weight, but if you want to bulk update product height, bulk edit product length, or bulk change product length, just select the field you want to edit.
• Select type of edit: Set value
• Replace existing value with this value: Add the new value here.
• Optional – You can select any of these two options:
  • Edit only parent products
  • Edit only variations
• Click on Execute Now.

Bulk remove product dimensions’ data

If you want to remove the dimension data of your products, you can do it using the spreadsheet, or using the bulk editor.

Using the spreadsheet: Go to the cells you want to edit, delete the values, and save the changes.

Using the bulk editor: Open the Mass Editor and select these values:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
• What field do you want to edit: Here you can select all the fields from which you will remove the values. In this example, we will select these fields: Height, Length, Weight, Width
• Select type of edit: Clear value
• Optional – You can select any of these two options:
  • Edit only parent products
  • Edit only variations
• Click on Execute Now.

Bulk updating product dimensions is really simple if you use the WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products plugin. You can search for products based on product dimensions’ data, bulk update any product dimension field (weight, length, height, width), and remove dimensions’ data easily.
