In this tutorial, we will show you how to export and import Custom Post Type Maker content with CSV files. If you have created different content types using the Custom Post Type Maker plugin, you can export any custom post type to a CSV file or import a CSV file containing custom post types.
In previous tutorials, we showed you how to bulk edit Custom Post Type Maker content and how to export/import with Google Sheets. Here you’ll see how to download a CSV file containing all the data of your custom posts. Then, you’ll see how to import a CSV file containing data of your custom posts into WordPress.
We’ll use the WP Sheet Editor plugin, which allows you to view and manage your WordPress posts, pages and custom post types using an intuitive spreadsheet.

Once you have installed and activated the plugin, you need to generate a spreadsheet for your specific custom post type.
Follow this setup guide.
You’ll see the custom post type that you created with Custom Post Type Maker displayed in a spreadsheet like this:
Note → In this tutorial, we’ll use a custom post type that we have created, called “Lyrics”. We have also added custom fields with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin, and you’ll see that WP Sheet Editor works with all most popular custom fields plugins.
You need to follow the steps below in order to export and import Custom Post Type Maker content with CSV files.
1- Export Custom Post Type Maker to CSV file
If you want to export you custom post type to a CSV file that you can open and manage with Excel, Google Sheets, or any other CSV editor, you need to start by opening the Export tool.
Now you need to select these values to download a CSV file containing your custom posts to your computer:
- What columns do you want to export: You can type specific column names, select all the active columns, or all the columns.
- Which rows do you want to export: You can export all the rows, all the rows from a specific search, or all the rows that you manually select in the spreadsheet.
- What app will you use to edit this file: You can select Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or other options.
- Name of this export: You can add a name for this export and the CSV file will inherit that name.
- Click on Start new export.
With these steps, you’ll have downloaded a CSV file to your computer, which you can open and edit using the selected app.
In this case, we have opened the CSV using Excel.
2- Import Custom Post Type Maker from CSV file
If you want to import data for your custom post types from a CSV into WordPress, you can do it with WP Sheet Editor.
First, you need to start by adding or editing the data in the CSV file. You can create new posts or edit existing posts.
Second, you need to start by opening the Import tool.
Third, you need to select the CSV file you want to import into WordPress.

- Click on Choose File and select the CSV from your computer.
- Click on Next.
Fourth, you need to select the columns you want to import.
In this case, we will Import all the columns but you can Select individual columns to import.
Fifth, you need to select how you want to import the data.
In this example, we will Create new items and update existing items.
Note → If you select any option to Update existing items, you will need to match the rows in the CSV file with the rows on WordPress. We recommend using the ID field.
Finally, you will see a preview of what the data will look like in the spreadsheet.
If everything is OK, you need to click on The preview is fine, start import.
