JetEngine – How to Bulk Edit Custom Post Types in a Spreadsheet

This is a complete guide to bulk edit custom post types from JetEngine using a spreadsheet inside WordPress.

JetEngine allows you to create any custom post type to add dynamic content to your WordPress site. You can also create custom fields and meta boxes for your custom post types.

If you create a custom post type called “Download” and start creating hundreds of downloads, you can’t bulk edit all the items you’ve created. You have to open and edit one post at a time, and that undermines your productivity and makes it tedious to manage the posts.

That’s why we’ll show you how to use the Posts Pages and Custom Post Types Spreadsheet plugin.

This WordPress plugin by WP Sheet Editor allows you to:

• Bulk manage WordPress posts and pages in a spreadsheet.
• Create a spreadsheet for each custom post type added by plugins like JetEngine.
• Bulk edit custom post types using a spreadsheet.
• Import and export custom post types to Excel or Google Sheets.
• Convert custom post types massively.

After installing the plugin, you need to download the WP Sheet Editor – JetEngine Extension, it’ll make WP Sheet Editor and JetEngine fully compatible.

Once you install and activate the plugin, you need to follow the steps in the following sections to bulk edit custom post types created with JetEngine.

1- How to generate a spreadsheet for your custom post types

With WP Sheet Editor, you can edit custom post types added with JetEngine using an intuitive spreadsheet inside WordPress. Here we show you the steps to setup any custom post type spreadsheet.

1. Go to WP Sheet Editor > Setup Spreadsheet.
2. Select the custom post type you’ll edit with the spreadsheet. We’ve created a custom post type called File, so we’ll choose it.
3. Click Save.

Now you need to select the columns you want to display in the spreadsheet.

1. You can move the columns you want to disable to the Disabled side.
2. Once you select the columns, scroll down and click Save.

After that, you’ll see all your posts displayed in the spreadsheet as rows and all fields and metaboxes displayed as columns.

You’ll see that every field displays and works in the spreadsheet according to the field type:

• Color pickers show as simple text fields so you enter the color code.
• Text fields show as simple texts.
• Media fields show you the “Upload” button. If you upload images, you can preview the images by hovering over the image.
• Checkboxes are displayed as checkboxes.
• Dropdowns are displayed as dropdowns.
• Number fields are displayed as simple text so you enter the numbers.

You’ll see every JetEngine field and meta box displayed in the spreadsheet. But if you don’t see them, you can scan the database to find the missing fields and display them in the spreadsheet.

• Hover over Settings and click Scan DB to find fields.

2- How to edit hundreds of JetEngine posts individually

Now that you have displayed all the JetEngine posts in the spreadsheet, you can proceed to edit hundreds of posts. You can easily do it because WP Sheet Editor doesn’t require you to open and edit one post at a time.

You can edit any cell on any post and then just click Save.

Here we’ve highlighted the cells we’ve edited and the Save button. As you see, you can make hundreds of changes for hundreds of posts. This is a way to bulk edit JetEngine custom post types. You save a lot of time! But there’s a lot more you can do!

3- How to select hundreds of custom posts to bulk edit them

Before applying changes in bulk, you need to determine if you’ll bulk update all posts or selected posts only.

You have three ways to select which posts you’ll edit.

First, you can open the bulk edit tool and edit all the posts. Go to the next section in this tutorial.

Second, you can pick the posts you’ll edit using the checkbox picker in the first column of the spreadsheet.

Third, you can search for posts using any field as a search parameter.

For this, you need to open the Search tool.

Once you’re in the search tool, you can use any field as a search parameter. If you’ve created JetEngine taxonomies, you can use these taxonomies as search parameters. You can search by checkbox status, dropdown settings, color code, etc.

a) How to search for JetEngine posts by keyword or category

You’ll find these fields in the search tool to search for posts by keyword or category:

• Contains keyword – Enter any word to search for all posts containing it in the title.
• Enter File Category – This field is dynamic. That means it’ll work with all taxonomies and tags. In this case, it works with categories because we’ve created categories only. However, it will list all the taxonomies.
• Click Run Search. Once you select the search filters, you can filter posts with this button.

b) How to search for posts using checkbox fields as search parameters

WP Sheet Editor allows you to do advanced searches. You can use checkbox meta fields as search parameters.

Just select these values:

• Tick Enable advanced filters checkbox.
• Field: Select any field that is a checkbox.
• Operator: =
• Value: Tick or untick the checkbox.
• Click Run Search.

c) How to search for posts using color picker as a search parameter

If you want to use color picker fields as search parameters to filter your JetEngine custom posts, you need to select these fields in the Search tool:

• Tick Enable advanced filters checkbox.
• Field: Select any color picker field.
• Operator: =
• Value: Enter the color code you want the search results to have.
• Click Run Search.

Here’s how you can select any custom field or meta box to filter your custom posts.

In the screenshot below, we show you the search results for a checkbox field. You can see the active filters above the spreadsheet.

4- How to bulk edit JetEngine custom posts

With WP Sheet Editor, you can bulk edit any field of your JetEngine custom post types. This way, you can apply the same values to hundreds of posts.

Here are some examples to bulk edit posts:

• You can bulk enable or disable a checkbox for hundreds of posts.
• You have the option to bulk set the same color code for all posts or selected posts.
• You can bulk upload media to hundreds of posts
• Update number, dropdown, or text fields in bulk.

Once you select the posts you’ll edit, open the Bulk Edit tool.

This tool allows you to edit the same fields on hundreds of custom posts. Instead of editing custom posts individually, you can apply the same change to all selected posts.

Here we show you some options to bulk edit JetEngine custom posts based on the custom fields.

a) How to bulk edit custom checkbox fields

If you want to enable or disable custom checkbox fields added with JetEngine, you can do it by selecting these values in the Bulk Edit tool:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows). You can select all or pick the fields manually. But we’re editing the search results.
• What field do you want to edit: Select the checkbox field you’ll edit.
• Select type of edit: Set value
• Replace existing value with this value: Yes/No
• Click Execute Now.

This is how you can enable or disable checkbox fields in bulk.

b) How to bulk edit color picker fields

If you have color picker fields in your JetEngine custom posts and want to edit them, you need to select these values in the Bulk Edit tool:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
• What fields do you want to edit: Enter the color picker field.
• Select type of edit: Set value
• Replace existing value with this value: Enter the color code you want to set.
• Click Execute Now.

c) How to bulk edit number fields

You can bulk edit number fields easily by selecting the following values:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
• What fields do you want to edit: Select the number field.
• Select type of edit: Set value
• Replace existing value with this value: Enter the number you want to set.
• Click Execute Now.
