WooCommerce: Copy Product Descriptions to Short Descriptions in Bulk

Let’s see how to bulk copy product descriptions to short descriptions in WooCommerce and how to copy the short descriptions to the product descriptions.

Setting the same text for both the product description and short description can be useful for a variety of reasons.

For example, it ensures that both the long and short descriptions convey the same information, maintaining consistency in product details. It also ensures a uniform presentation of product details across the site, which can help in maintaining a professional look and feel. Besides, it simplifies the process of adding new products, especially when the same description content can be effectively used in both fields.

However, with normal WooCommerce, you have to go through your products one by one, copying and pasting the product descriptions on the short description.

This process will take you lots of hours. That’s why in this tutorial we’ll show you how easy it is to copy from product description to short description, and vice-versa, using WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products.

You just have to follow the steps below.

1- Install WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products

WP Sheet Editor allows you to manage your products in a spreadsheet. You can easily run advanced searches and bulk edit any field on hundreds or thousands of products.

You can skip this step if you have the plugin installed and activated.

2- Open the spreadsheet

To view your WooCommerce products in a spreadsheet, go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit products.

3- Search for the products you will edit

The Search tool allows you to search for WooCommerce products using any field as a search filter. You can search for products by keyword, category, attribute, product type, regular price, stock status, sale price, stock, empty description, featured image, etc.

In this example, we will use the Search tool to find all the products without short descriptions, plus other search filters.

We will search for products using these search criteria:

• Keyword = shirt
• Category = Clothing
• Status = Published
• Short description = Empty

To do this, you need to select the following values in the Search tool:

• Contains keyword: Enter the keyword here.
• Enter product categories: Enter the category here.
• Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox, and add these two filters:
  • Status = Published
  • Short description = [Empty]
• Click on Run search.

Once you run the search, you’ll view all your filtered products displayed on the spreadsheet.

3- Copy product description to short description and vice-versa

The Bulk Edit tool allows you to update hundreds or thousands of WooCommerce products at once.

In this case, it will allow you to bulk copy the content between product description and short description.

a) Copy product description to short description

If you want to copy the product content or description to the short description, you need to select these values in the Bulk Edit tool:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search
• What field do you want to edit: Short description
• Select type of edit: Copy from other columns
• Copy from this column: Content ($post_content$). This is the field where the product description is stored.
• Select the Edit only parent products option.
• Click on Execute Now.

As you can see, we have copied the values from the Product description field to the Short description field.

b) Copy short description to product description

If you want to copy the short description to the product description, you need to select these values in the Bulk Edit tool:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search
• What field do you want to edit: Content
• Select type of edit: Copy from other columns
• Copy from this column: Short description
• Select the Edit only parent products option.
• Click on Execute Now.

As you can see, we have copied the short description to the product description.

Copying from product description to short description, and vice versa, is really simple with WP Sheet Editor.
