WooCommerce – How to Edit Variation Descriptions in Bulk

In this tutorial, we show you how to bulk edit WooCommerce variation descriptions.

WooCommerce forces you to edit the variations individually.

Basically, to modify the variation descriptions, you need to open the variable product, change the descriptions one by one, save changes, and repeat the whole process with another variable product.

That takes a lot of time and is not a productive process.

That’s why, in this tutorial, we’ll show you how to bulk edit the WooCommerce variation descriptions using the WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products plugin.

It allows you to view and edit all your WooCommerce products and variations in one place. You can run advanced searches, bulk edit hundreds of products and variations, export and import product and variation data using CSV files.

Once you install and activate the plugin, follow these steps to bulk update the WooCommerce variation descriptions.

1- Open the WooCommerce products spreadsheet

To open the WooCommerce products spreadsheet, go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit products.

You’ll see all your products and their data displayed in the spreadsheet.

2- Display the product variations in the spreadsheet

WP Sheet Editor allows you to view the product variations in the spreadsheet by clicking on the Display variations button.

After clicking the Display variations button, you’ll see all the variations next to their parent products.

3- Find all the variable products only

If you don’t want to see simple products in the spreadsheet, you can find and display the variable products only.

For this you need to open the Search tool.

Now you need to check the Search on variations checkbox and click on Run search.

Now you’ll see the variable products with their variations displayed in the spreadsheet.

You can view all the active search filters above the spreadsheet.

4- Option: Bulk edit the variation descriptions using the spreadsheet

You can go to the Variation description column and edit all the descriptions you want.

Once you’re done, you need to click on the Save button to apply the changes.

This is a great way to set different descriptions and apply the changes once only.

5- Option: Bulk edit many variation descriptions at once

You can set the same variation description to all the selected variations with the Bulk Edit tool.

Now you need to select the following values to bulk update the variation descriptions for all the selected variations:

• Select the rows that you want to update: You can select any of these options:
  • Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
  • Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet
• What field do you want to edit: Variation description
• Select type of edit: Set value
• Replace existing value with this value: Write the new description in this field.
• Note: You need to select the Edit only variations option.
• Click on the Execute Now button.

As you see in the screenshot below, we have edited all our variation descriptions in bulk.
