How to Bulk Edit WooCommerce Global Attributes (Complete Guide)

Managing WooCommerce global attributes is crucial for maintaining a well-organized e-commerce store. Global attributes (such as Color, Size, Material, or Brand) give identity to your products, enable layered navigation, and help customers filter their searches to find exactly what they need.

However, if you have ever tried to reorganize your store, you know that editing attribute terms natively in WordPress is a frustrating process. Because WooCommerce forces you to open, edit, and save attribute terms one by one, fixing typos, adding descriptions, or restructuring taxonomies can take hours.

But don’t worry! In this tutorial, we will show you how to bypass the slow default interface and mass update hundreds of global attributes in seconds using an intuitive spreadsheet.

Install the WP Sheet Editor Taxonomies Spreadsheet Plugin

To apply massive changes to your global attribute terms (like deleting them in bulk, converting them to categories, or updating their SEO descriptions), we will use the WP Sheet Editor – Taxonomy Spreadsheet plugin. This tool contains a powerful Bulk Edit feature that allows you to manage any taxonomy in seconds.

You can skip this step if you already have the plugin installed and activated on your site.

Once the plugin is installed, it dynamically generates a dedicated spreadsheet for each global attribute taxonomy registered in your WooCommerce store. This means you get a clean, isolated workspace for whatever attribute you need to manage.

  • To edit Tags: go to Sheet Editor > Edit Product tags
  • To edit Colors: go to Sheet Editor > Edit Product colors
  • To edit Quality: go to Sheet Editor > Edit Product quality
  • To edit Range: go to Sheet Editor > Edit Product range
  • To edit Size: go to Sheet Editor > Edit Product size

For this tutorial, we will use the colors attribute spreadsheet as our primary example. Please navigate to Sheet Editor > Edit Product Color.

1. Edit Global Attributes Individually in the Spreadsheet

When you open the spreadsheet, you will see all your attribute terms (e.g., Red, Blue, Green, Black) displayed as rows, with their underlying data displayed as columns.

View and edit WooCommerce global attributes in a spreadsheet interface

This spreadsheet allows you to quickly edit hundreds of product attributes just by clicking and typing. You can edit all the columns seamlessly. For example, you can update:

  • Name: Fix typos across dozens of attributes instantly.
  • Slug: Optimize your attribute URLs for better SEO.
  • Status: Change the status to active or delete items quickly.
  • Description: Write descriptive text for your attribute archive pages.
  • Taxonomy: Convert attributes into categories or product tags directly from the cell.
  • Yoast SEO / Rank Math fields: Update SEO titles and meta descriptions for your attribute pages.

Just change the values in the columns you wish to modify, and then hit Save on the top toolbar to apply the changes to your live store. It is really simple—no more opening tabs one by one!

2. Bulk Edit WooCommerce Global Attributes

If typing directly into the spreadsheet cells isn’t fast enough, you can use the Bulk Edit tool to apply mathematical formulas or mass updates to hundreds of attributes simultaneously.

To access this feature, click on the Bulk Edit button located on the plugin’s top toolbar.

Here are two highly useful examples of the many structural changes you can apply with this tool:

Example A: Bulk Delete All Product Colors (Attribute Cleanup)

Sometimes, when testing imports or changing your store’s structure, your database gets bloated with hundreds of unused attribute terms. Instead of deleting them page by page, you can wipe them all instantly.

Use these exact values in the Bulk Edit tool popup to permanently delete all product colors:

Configure the bulk edit tool to delete all WooCommerce color attributes

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (You can also filter specific terms to delete using the Search tool first).
  • What field do you want to edit: Status
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this item: delete
  • Click on Execute now.

Example B: Convert All Global Attributes into Product Categories

Let’s say you originally set up “Brands” or “Colors” as global attributes, but later realized that making them Product Categories would be much better for your site’s navigation and SEO strategy.

Instead of manually recreating every single category and deleting the old attributes, you can dynamically convert the taxonomy.

Use these values in the Bulk Edit fields to convert your attribute terms into categories:

Bulk convert WooCommerce global attributes into product categories

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search.
  • What field do you want to edit: Taxonomy
  • Select the type of edit: Set value
  • Replace existing value with this item: product_cat (This is the internal database key for Product Categories).
  • Click on Execute now.

Immediately, all your terms will be migrated from the attributes menu into your WooCommerce categories menu!

Simplify your WooCommerce taxonomy management

Reorganizing your e-commerce store doesn’t have to be a painful, time-consuming process. With the WP Sheet Editor Taxonomies Spreadsheet plugin, you can easily view your data, fix formatting errors, delete unused terms, and bulk edit your WooCommerce global attributes efficiently.
