How to Bulk Edit WooCommerce Global Attribute Terms

This tutorial shows you how to bulk edit WooCommerce global attribute terms using WP Sheet Editor. You can edit names, slugs, and descriptions in a spreadsheet, delete terms in bulk, or convert terms into product categories.

We will use the Color attribute as an example. The same steps apply to other global attributes, such as Size or Material. This tutorial covers the terms within an attribute, such as Red and Blue, rather than assigning attributes to products.

1. Install WP Sheet Editor – Taxonomy Spreadsheet

Install and activate WP Sheet Editor – Taxonomy Spreadsheet. Skip this step if the plugin is already active.

Open Sheet Editor and select the spreadsheet for the attribute you want to edit. For this example, open the Product Color spreadsheet. The menu label depends on your attribute’s name.

2. Edit attribute terms in the spreadsheet

The spreadsheet displays each attribute term as a row and its fields as columns.

Use the spreadsheet to enter different values for individual terms:

• Name: Rename terms or correct spelling.
• Slug: Edit each term’s slug.
• Description: Add or replace term descriptions.

Click the cells you want to edit, enter the new values, and click Save on the toolbar.

3. Bulk edit WooCommerce attribute terms

To apply the same change to multiple terms, open the Bulk Edit tool from the toolbar.

To update only specific terms, filter them with the Search tool first. Review the results before applying a bulk edit.

Example 1: Bulk delete attribute terms

Open the attribute spreadsheet and filter the terms you want to delete. To delete every term in that attribute, leave the spreadsheet unfiltered.

Deleting terms is permanent. Review the selected terms and their product usage before proceeding.

Configure the Bulk Edit tool:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search.
• What field do you want to edit: Status.
• Select the type of edit: Set value.
• Replace existing value with this item: delete.

Click Execute now to delete the matching terms. This targets the terms in the current attribute spreadsheet, not every global attribute in your store.

Example 2: Convert terms into product categories

To change terms from the current attribute taxonomy into product categories, filter the terms you want to convert and open Bulk Edit.

This changes the terms’ taxonomy; it does not create separate category copies.

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search.
• What field do you want to edit: Taxonomy.
• Select the type of edit: Set value.
• Replace existing value with this item: product_cat.
• Click Execute now and then open Products > Categories to review the converted terms.
