WPML – How to Bulk Translate WooCommerce Attributes Quickly

In a previous post, we showed you how to translate hundreds of products quickly, then we showed you how to edit thousands of categories and tags, and now we want to show you how to translate product attributes.

With these three posts, you will learn how to translate a WooCommerce store completely.

You can translate colors, sizes, and any other custom attribute quickly.

The best thing is that you can save a lot of working hours because you will avoid having to open your attributes one by one to edit them. You will be able to edit all the attributes in a spreadsheet as if you were editing an Excel or Google Sheets file.

This spreadsheet allows you to filter your attributes by keyword and keyword in parent product.

In addition, you can apply massive changes such as removing hundreds of attributes at once, merge duplicate attributes in seconds, etc.

You can also download all the attributes to a CSV file to edit it in Excel or Google Sheets, and import the changes and new attributes quickly.

You just need to follow these simple steps.

Step 1. Translate the products using WP Sheet Editor

The first step is to translate all the WooCommerce products. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend many hours translating your them into several languages.

You can easily translate them using the WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet plugin and save a lot of time.

We have a detailed tutorial for that, so you need to follow the steps in it.

The WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet plugin translates all your products, together with their categories, tags, and attributes.

You first need to translate the products and then you’ll be ready to translate the taxonomies quickly using the taxonomy terms spreadsheet.

Step 2. Install the “Taxonomy Terms Spreadsheet” plugin

The Taxonomy Terms Spreadsheet plugin creates a spreadsheet for each taxonomy term: a spreadsheet for categories, a spreadsheet for colors, a spreadsheet for sizes, a spreadsheet for sizes, etc.

You can do advanced searches, apply massive changes in seconds, and export all your taxonomies to Excel or Google Sheets.

Once installed and activated, you’re ready to go on to the next steps.

Step 3. Open the attribute spreadsheet you’ll use

As you’ll notice, the plugin will create different spreadsheets for different taxonomy terms.

The spreadsheets available will vary from site to site because not all sites create the same attributes, and the different plugins create different post types that contain different taxonomies.

You need to select the spreadsheet you’ll use.

Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit categories, tags, attributes, taxonomies and select the spreadsheet you’ll use.

We’ll use the colors spreadsheet as an example, so click on Edit Product Color.

Once you click on Edit Product Color, the plugin will display all the colors as rows and the fields as columns.

The content displayed in the spreadsheet depends on the language selected. If you select English, the spreadsheet will show you all the attributes in English.

If you select Spanish, the spreadsheet will display all the colors in that language.

If you select Italian, the spreadsheet will show you the translations for that language.

Important

The languages available will depend on the translations you created for the products. In the post about translating products, we translated the products into Spanish and Italian as an example.

But you may translate them into any other language; you can translate them into as many languages as you want.

As you see, the attributes haven’t been translated yet. That’s what we’ll do in the following steps.

Step 4. Translate the attributes using the spreadsheet

In this example, we’ll translate the attributes into Italian.

  • Go to the Name column and translate the content there.
  • Once you edit all the color names, click on Save to apply the changes.

It’s great you don’t have to open, edit, and save changes many times. You just need to edit the attribute names as if you were doing it with Excel or Google Sheets and save changes once.

Step 5. Translate the attribute slugs using the “Bulk Edit” tool

You could spend some time editing the attribute slugs using the spreadsheet and you’d still save a lot of time compared to editing them one by one manually.

However, we have the best option to translate all the attribute slugs in seconds.

Open the Bulk Edit tool with one click on the toolbar.

We won’t translate manually, but automatically. We will generate the slugs from the attribute names. Just select these values to translate all the attribute slugs automatically.

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows)
  • What field do you want to edit: Slug
  • Select type of edit: Copy from other columns
  • Copy from this column: Name ($name$)
  • Click on Execute now.

After selecting and applying these values, you’ll see that all the attribute slugs will be translated using the attribute names, which were previously translated.

We’ve used the Italian translations as an example, but you can apply these same steps to any other translation.

Once you translate the products into any language, the categories, tags, and attributes will be translated automatically.

How simple and time-saving!

Translating hundreds of product attributes is not difficult nor time-consuming.

It’s a simple and time-saving task if you use the Taxonomy Terms Spreadsheet.
