In this tutorial, we will show you how to efficiently bulk edit and rename WooCommerce product titles.
One of the biggest challenges store owners encounter is the requirement to update or rename many WooCommerce products at once. If you have hundreds or thousands of items in your store, changing titles manually one by one is a tedious and time-consuming task.
Bulk editing WooCommerce product titles can help online sellers optimize their catalog for search engines, improve the user shopping experience, and maintain a highly consistent naming pattern across different categories and brands.
Fortunately, there is a fast and easy solution to bypass the default WooCommerce editor.
In this article, we’ll go through how to bulk change WooCommerce product names and edit titles with WP Sheet Editor, a handy plugin that will help you save hours of work and streamline your store management.
Install WP Sheet Editor to bulk edit WooCommerce product titles
WP Sheet Editor provides a powerful Products Spreadsheet where you can see all your product information in a single grid and edit it freely, just like you would in Excel.
You can skip this step if you already have the plugin installed and activated.
You can download the plugin here:
Download WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet Plugin - or - Check the features
Open the plugin by going to WP Sheet Editor > Edit Products.
Once you open the plugin, you’ll find all your products along with their detailed information laid out in columns and rows.

Once the spreadsheet is ready, you can use any of the methods below to bulk edit your product titles:
1. Edit WooCommerce product titles directly in the spreadsheet
Renaming products and modifying titles using a spreadsheet interface can save you a lot of time, especially if you have a large inventory that needs diverse updates.
It also allows you to double-check and guarantee the names’ accuracy before applying them to your live WooCommerce store.
You can modify your product titles with WP Sheet Editor the exact same way you would in Excel or Google Sheets. Just go to the “Name” (Title) column, click on any cell, and freely type the new titles.
Don’t forget to click Save on the top toolbar once you’ve finished editing to apply the new WooCommerce product names.
This spreadsheet editing method is quite convenient if you need to make individual, varied changes to the names of your products.
But if you want to apply the same change to a large number of products, you can edit titles in bulk, as shown in the following sections.
2. Bulk append text to WooCommerce product titles
You may need to append—in other words, add text to the very end of your product titles—to send a specific message to buyers browsing your store.
In the sections that follow, we will show you various scenarios where appending text to the end of your product titles is highly useful.
a) Add a special offer text to your product titles
If a product is on sale or has a special offer, including “Sale,” “Clearance,” or “Discount” at the end of the title can instantly grab the attention of bargain hunters.
In cases like this, you will first want to filter your products with sale prices. This can be done using the Search tool located in the plugin toolbar.
Once the tool is open, filter your products with sale prices:
- Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox
- Field: Sale price
- Operator: Not equal to (!=)
- Value: Leave it empty
- Click Run search
After filtering the products, you can append the chosen special offer text. In this case, we are adding “On Sale!”.
To continue, open the Bulk Edit tool.
Inside the bulk edit tool, you will need to enter the following values to modify your product titles in bulk:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Append
- Enter the value to append to the existing value: – On sale! (Note: Include a blank space before this text so the formatting looks clean, because our plugin will add whatever you put in this field right after the product name.)
- Click on Execute now.
Now you will see the promotional message successfully added to the end of the product titles.
b) Show “Discontinued” on your product titles
Knowing that a product has been discontinued may prompt customers to make a rushed purchase because they perceive the item to be available in limited quantities or for a limited period.
This sense of urgency may result in increased sales and faster inventory clearance.
Since not all products in your store are discontinued, you will need to use the Search tool to filter the specific products you are going to rename.
Once the Search tool is open, you can use different inventory parameters to filter your products. For example, let’s filter all products whose stock is less than 20.
To do so, use the following fields:
- Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox
- Field: Stock
- Operator: <
- Value: 20
- Click Run search
After filtering the products to be renamed, open the Bulk Edit tool.
Once in the Bulk Edit tool, use the following parameters to append the “Discontinued” message to the titles of all filtered products:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Append
- Enter the value to append to the existing value: – Discontinued. (Again, include a blank space before this text for proper formatting.)
- Click on Execute now.
After adding the text “Discontinued” to the targeted items, they will instantly update and appear in the spreadsheet like this:
c) Add product categories at the end of product titles
You will find all the steps to bulk edit your product names using category tags in our dedicated tutorial: WooCommerce – How to Append Category to Product Titles Globally.
3. Bulk prepend text to WooCommerce product titles
Prepending text—adding words to the very beginning of the product title—can help customers quickly identify key details, such as the brand or exclusivity, directly from search results.
In the following sections, we’ll show you different ways to bulk edit product titles by prepending text.
a) Add brand at the beginning of product titles
Adding the vendor or brand name at the start of your product titles can improve your WooCommerce SEO and help customers find the exact maker of the product.
NOTE: For this section, we have created a custom attribute called “Brand”, so it appears in the spreadsheet as “Product Brand“.
Before we go ahead and add the brand to the product name, let’s filter the products using the Search tool.
To search for all products whose price is over $50, use the following values:
- Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox
- Field: Regular price
- Operator: >
- Value: 50
- Click Run search
Now that the high-value products have been filtered, let’s open the Bulk Edit tool.
Finally, enter these values to rename the product titles by dynamically prepending the product brands:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Prepend
- Enter the value to prepend to the existing value: $pa_brand$ – (In this case, it is important to add a blank space or a hyphen after the attribute key to make a clean separation between the brand and the actual product name).
- Click on Execute now.
After you’ve completed the bulk edit, the brand variable will display perfectly before the titles of your products.
b) Enter a “Limited Stock” or “Exclusive” message in product titles
For products with limited availability or exclusivity, adding “Limited Stock” or “Exclusive” to the beginning of the title can create a sense of urgency and encourage customers to make a purchase immediately.
There are some brands that make very exclusive products, so you will need to use the Search tool to filter your catalog by that specific brand first.
NOTE: For this example, we have created the attribute called “Brand”, so it appears in the spreadsheet as “Product Brand“.
Enter these values into the Search tool to filter all products belonging to the same brand:
- Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox
- Field: Product brand
- Operator: =
- Value: Enter the exact brand you are looking for
- Click Run search
Now that you have filtered all products by brand, let’s rename their titles using the Bulk Edit tool.
To bulk edit a “Limited Stock” or “Exclusive” message into your product names, enter these values into the Bulk Edit tool:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Prepend
- Enter the value to prepend to the existing value: “Limited Stock” or “Exclusive” (To separate the message from the actual product name, it is necessary to add a space or character after the text).
- Click on Execute now.
After executing, you will see that the titles of our exclusive products have been changed successfully.
c) Prepend “Personalized” to the titles of your custom products
Adding “Customizable” or “Personalized” to the title can easily attract customers looking for unique, made-to-order items.
For this, you may have a specific category called “Promotional products“, so you can start by filtering these products with the Search tool.
In the search tool, simply enter the Category and click Run the search.
After having the custom products filtered, open the Bulk Edit tool.
Enter these values into the Bulk Edit tool to prepend the word “Customizable” or “Personalized”:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Prepend
- Enter the value to prepend to the existing value: Personalized – (Be sure to add a blank space after the text to distinguish it cleanly from the product name).
- Click on Execute now.
Now that the bulk edit has been made, you will see the text “Personalized” properly placed at the beginning of the product titles.
4. Bulk replace or remove specific words from WooCommerce product titles
When you need to edit WooCommerce product titles, sometimes you don’t want to add text, but rather eliminate or change a specific word or character. The Bulk Edit tool makes this search-and-replace process incredibly simple.
a) Edit the product title by replacing a specific word
Changing certain words in product titles can help improve clarity and maintain naming consistency throughout your WooCommerce catalog. This ensures customers have an easier time browsing your store.
For example, you may want to look for all products that contain the word “Personalized” in their title and change it to “Customizable”.
To start, let’s open the Search tool.
Once the tool is open, introduce the Keyword “Personalized” in the search field and click Run search.
After filtering the products, let’s change their names using the Bulk Edit tool.
Now enter the following values to bulk edit your product names by keyword:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Replace
- Replace this: Enter the word you want to eliminate (e.g., “Personalized”)
- With this: Enter the new word (e.g., “Customizable”)
- Click on Execute now.
Once you execute the bulk edit, your current search will no longer show results, since you have successfully replaced the word “Personalized”:
In this case, you can use the Search tool again to filter all products, but now using the new keyword “Customized” or “Customizable”.
Now the filtered products will display their newly edited titles:
b) Update product titles by bulk removing the brand or category
Let’s say we have changed our mind and we no longer want the brands or categories of the products to show in the title. Now we need to update the names of our products to clean them up.
To do this, you will need to open the Bulk Edit tool.
NOTE: For our store, we have created the attribute called “Brand”, so it appears in the spreadsheet as “Product Brand“.
Once the tool is open, enter these values:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Replace
- Replace this: Here, we will enter the column key for brand
$pa_brand$or the column key for categories$product_cat$, depending on which attribute we are removing from the title. - With this: Leave this field completely empty.
- Click on Execute now.
IMPORTANT:
– This edit will be performed only on product names containing the brand or category; otherwise, no change will be made.
– The change will only occur if the brand or category text in the product title exactly matches the name in the “Product Brand” or “Product Categories” column.
After executing, you will see that the brands or categories have been bulk removed from the product names.
c) Bulk edit WooCommerce product titles by eliminating specific characters
Eliminating unnecessary characters, such as special symbols or excessive punctuation, can make product titles easier for customers to read and improve your WooCommerce SEO.
For this example, let’s remove the exclamation mark (!) from the titles of our products.
Start by opening the Bulk Edit tool.
Now fill in the fields in the Bulk Edit tool with the following values to bulk edit your WooCommerce product titles by stripping out specific symbols:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search (Even non-visible rows).
- What field do you want to update: Title
- Select type of edit: Replace
- Replace this: We will enter the exclamation mark (!)
- With this: Leave this field empty
- Click on Execute now.
Finally, you will see that the exclamation marks have been completely wiped from your product titles.
5. Capitalize the words in the product title
Need to standardize your text formatting? Check out our dedicated tutorial on How to Bulk Capitalize the Words in the Product Title.
6. Bulk edit WooCommerce product titles by importing a CSV file
You may be working with external data sources—such as inventory management software or supplier databases—that provide updated product names in CSV format.
Importing these new names directly into your WooCommerce store can help streamline your workflow and keep your titles up to date without manual typing.
In this case, let’s import this Google Sheets spreadsheet to bulk edit our titles:
Once you have downloaded or saved your CSV file containing the new titles, open the Import tool in WP Sheet Editor.
The first step in the Import tool is to select the file to be imported. For this example, we are importing a file from our computer.
Then you will be asked what columns from your document you want to import into WooCommerce.
We are just importing the “Name” (Title) and “ID” columns to update the titles safely, but you can import all of them if you have more information to edit.
Next, you will have different options to import your products. For this scenario where we are just editing names, we want to update existing items and ignore new items.
You must map the products correctly using the “record ID” field.
Finally, review the preview of your new titles and click start the import.
After all the items have been processed from the CSV file, you will see the newly bulk-edited product names populated in your spreadsheet.
By effectively updating product titles in bulk, you can now strike the perfect balance between providing relevant information to your buyers and keeping the title concise and optimized for search engines.
Store owners can use WP Sheet Editor to bulk edit WooCommerce product titles effortlessly, saving hours of manual data entry while improving the overall shopping experience of their online store.
