In this tutorial, we will show you how to export and import Meta Box custom fields using CSV files.
This is very useful if you have added custom fields to any WordPress post type, using the Meta Box plugin, and you want to export the data to a CSV file that you can edit with Excel or any other CSV file editor. After that, you can edit the data in Excel, and import the custom field data from the CSV into WordPress.

To export and import Meta Box custom fields, we will use the WP Sheet Editor plugin. It allows you to view and manage posts, pages, and custom post types in a spreadsheet. You can view and edit custom fields added by third party plugins like Meta Box, ACF, etc.

Follow the links in the sections below to export and import custom fields.
1- View Meta Box custom fields in the spreadsheet
In this example, we have added some custom fields to our WordPress posts, so we need to go to WP Sheet Editor → Edit posts.
Here is the spreadsheet containing all our WordPress posts data:
As you see here, the custom fields we have added with the Meta Box plugin are displayed in the spreadsheet.
Now we can proceed to export our custom fields to a CSV file.
2- Export Meta Box custom fields to a CSV file
To export Meta Box custom fields to a CSV file, we need to start by opening the Export tool with one click.
Now we need to select the following values in the Export tool, in order to download your custom fields data to a CSV file:
- What columns do you want to export: Select the columns (fields) you want to export. In this case, we have selected some WordPress standard fields and some Meta Box custom fields.
- Which rows do you want to export: You can export all rows, all rows from a search, or all rows that you have manually selected in the spreadsheet.
- What app will you use to edit this file: In this example, we will use the Microsoft Excel app.
- Name of this export: We can add a name for this export in this field.
- Click on Start new export.
As you can see below, we have exported our Meta Box custom fields to a CSV file that we have opened with Microsoft Excel.
This is what your custom fields data looks like in Excel.
You can edit the custom fields data in Excel, add new information, etc.
After that, you can proceed to import Meta Box custom fields from a CSV file into WordPress.
3- Import Meta Box custom fields from a CSV file
To import custom fields added with the Meta Box plugin, we need to start by opening the Import tool.
Second, we need to select the CSV file that we want to import by choosing these values in the Import tool:
- Source: CSV file from my computer
- Click on Choose File and select the CSV you want to import.
- Click on Next
Third, we need to select the columns we want to import.
We can Import all the columns or Select individual columns to import. This second option allows us to ignore specific columns.
Fourth, we need to select how we want to import the data.
In this case, we will Update existing items, ignore new items because we just want to update Meta Box custom fields data on existing posts.
Note → If you select any option to update existing items, you will need to match the rows in the CSV file with the fields on WordPress.
Click on Next.
Finally, you’ll see a preview of what the data will look like when it’s imported.
If everything is OK, you need to click on The preview is fine, start import.

Besides being able to bulk edit custom fields in a spreadsheet, WP Sheet Editor allows you to export and import custom fields data using CSV files.
