WordPress – How to Delete Duplicate Posts or Pages in Seconds

In this tutorial, we show you how to remove duplicate posts or pages on WordPress.

As you may know, duplicate posts or pages can be a real problem for several reasons:

  • First, they take space that we could use for something more important.
  • Second, they make our server slow because it has to load more things than we actually need.
  • Third, we sometimes have problems discerning which of these duplicate posts or pages are the ones with good content.

It’s always a great option to delete duplicate WordPress posts or pages. But it can be really time-consuming if you have to delete them manually.

That’s why we’ll show you how to remove duplicate posts or pages using the Posts, Pages, and Custom Post Types Spreadsheet plugin. It helps you manage your posts, pages, and custom post types completely from an intuitive spreadsheet inside WordPress.

After installing and activating the plugin, you need to open the spreadsheet you’ll use. By that, we mean that you need to open whether the pages spreadsheet or the posts spreadsheet.

  • Posts: Go to Sheet Editor > Edit Posts
  • Pages: Go to Sheet Editor > Edit Pages

Once you open the spreadsheet you need to use, you’ll see all your posts or pages displayed on it. We’re using the posts spreadsheet, so every post is a row and every field of that post is a column.

Before executing the “Remove Duplicates” feature:

To avoid showing 404 errors to your users after removing duplicates, you need to create 301 redirections to the remaining posts or pages. But we can create them automatically for you. Just do this:

  1. Install the Redirection plugin to create the redirection links.
  2. Install the WP Sheet Editor – Redirection extension.

Once both the plugin and the extension are installed on your website, you can run the “Remove Duplicates” feature freely because our plugin will automatically create the 301 redirections to the remaining posts or pages.

A backup is recommended to avoid any problems.

Once you open the spreadsheet you’ll use, you can follow these simple steps to remove the duplicate posts or pages.

1- Open the “Bulk Edit” tool

The Bulk Edit tool allows you to apply massive changes to your posts or pages with a few clicks. In this case, it’ll help you delete all the duplicate posts or pages.

  • Author: Select any post author to edit the posts by him only.
  • Enter Categories, Tags or Formats: Enter any of these three search parameters.

Once enter any of these search terms, click the Run search button.
