WooCommerce – Remove Duplicate Products with Same Descriptions

Sometimes you import thousands of products from the wholesaler, and you make a mistake during the import, and you end up with hundreds of duplicate products.

Now you have 2 choices:

• Delete everything and import again, which means double work
• Or just delete the duplicates quickly

In this article, we’ll show you how to delete hundreds of products with duplicate descriptions in seconds using WP Sheet Editor.

Install WP Sheet Editor

Before executing the “Remove Duplicates” feature:

To avoid showing 404 errors to your users after removing duplicates, you need to create 301 redirections to the remaining products. But we can create them automatically for you. Just do this:

1. Install the Redirection plugin to create the redirection links.

Once both the plugin and the extension are installed on your website, you can run the “Remove Duplicates” feature freely because our plugin will automatically create the 301 redirections to the remaining products.

A backup is recommended to avoid any problems.

When you open the plugin, you’ll see a spreadsheet with all your products and their complete information.

1. Delete all products with duplicate descriptions

Important. Products missing descriptions will not be deleted.

To delete all your products containing duplicate descriptions, you need to open the Bulk Edit tool, which is located on the plugin’s toolbar. Just click on it.

Then just set these values:

• Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all rows from my current search (even non-visible rows).
• What field do you want to edit: Content
• Select type of edit: Remove duplicates
• Click on Execute now

2. Delete all products with duplicate descriptions by keyword, status, category, attribute, and tag

With WP Sheet Editor it’s really easy to delete products with duplicate descriptions by keyword, status, category, attribute, or tag.

You just need to take some simple steps:

a) Open the Bulk Edit tool

This tool helps you apply changes to thousands of products at once. It’s located on the toolbar, so just click on it to open.

b) Filter your products by keyword, status, category, attribute, or tag

Once you open the Bulk Edit tool, select I want to search rows to update in the Select the rows that you want to update dropdown.

Here you’ll find the following fields to make your search:

• Contains keyword: Any keyword to search all products containing it.
• Status: Draft, Published, Scheduled, etc.
• Enter Tags: Categories, Attributes, and Tags.

After selecting the search method, click on Run search to filter your products.

c) Delete duplicates

Once you’re back in the Bulk Edit tool, you need to set these values to delete your products with duplicate descriptions:

• Select the rows that you want to update: I want to search rows to update
• What field do you want to edit: Content
• Select the type of edit: Remove duplicates
• Click on Execute now

Done! Now all your products with duplicate descriptions will be deleted.

3. Delete downloadable products containing duplicate descriptions

With WP Sheet Editor, it’s really easy to delete all your downloadable products with duplicate descriptions.

You just need to take some simple steps:

a) Open the Bulk Edit tool

This tool helps you apply changes to thousands of products at once. It’s located on the toolbar, so just click on it to open.

b) Filter your downloadable products

Once you open the Bulk Edit tool, select I want to search rows to update in the Select the rows that you want to update dropdown.

Now you need to do this in order to filter all downloadable products:

• Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox
• Field key: Downloadable (_downloadable)
• Operator: =
• Value: Tick this checkbox
• Click on Run search to filter your products.

c) Delete duplicates

Once you’re back in the Bulk Edit tool, you need to set these values to delete your products with duplicate descriptions:

• Select the rows that you want to update: I want to search rows to update
• What field do you want to edit: Content
• Select the type of edit: Remove duplicates
• Click on Execute now

Now all your downloadable products with duplicate descriptions will be deleted.
