WooCommerce – Bulk Edit Product Weight for an Entire Category

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to bulk edit product weight in WooCommerce for an entire category, using an intuitive spreadsheet.

If you have hundreds of products within a category, maybe you’re having trouble with the idea of editing product weight in all those products.

For example, your client has asked you to edit product weight on all the products within the Technology category, but you have two hundred different products in that category.

That will take several hours to complete, and you’ll have to open product by product to edit its weight.

However, in this article, we’ll show you how you can bulk edit product weight in WooCommerce for an entire category.

We’ll show you how to edit individual products quickly and how to apply the same weight to thousands of products at once.

Here are the text/screenshot steps to edit weight by category.

1- Install the Sheet Editor Plugin

WP Sheet Editor provides a Products Spreadsheet where you can see all the product information, and you can edit freely.

You can skip this step if you already have the plugin installed and activated.

2- Set up the WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet

3- Open the Sheet Editor Plugin

Once you open the plugin, you’ll see a spreadsheet with all your products and their detailed information.

4- Open the Bulk Edit tool

Whenever you want to edit hundreds of products at once, you need to use the “Bulk Edit” tool.

So you need to open it by clicking the button above the spreadsheet.

5- Bulk edit product weight in simple products

If you want to edit product weight for all the products within the Technology category, you need to filter your products.

a) Open search tool

To filter the products, you need to select the “I want to search rows to update” option in the “Select the rows that you want to update” dropdown.

This will help you search for the products you need to modify.

b) Look for the product category

Once you open the search tool, you need to filter the products by category.

Do it by writing the category in the “Enter product category” field.

For example, if you have a Technology category, just write Technology in the “Enter product category” field.

Then just hit the “Run search” button.

c) Set the new values

After filtering the products by category, you need to set these values in order to edit your products’ weight:

• Select Weight as the field you want to edit.
• Select “Set value” in the Type of edit.
• Write the new Weight (0.5 for example).
• Hit the “Execute now” button.

After that, you’ll see that all your chosen products will be modified.

Bonus: Bulk edit product weight in variable products

If you want to edit weight for an entire category of variable products, you first need to open the “Apply changes in bulk”.

a) Open the Search tool

To filter the products, you need to select the “I want to search rows to update” option in the “Select the rows that you want to update” dropdown.

This button will help you search for the products you need to modify.

b) Look for the product category

To look for your product category, just write it in the “Enter product category field” and then tick the “Search on product variations” checkbox.

After filtering the products by category, you need to set these values in order to edit your products’ weight:

• Select Weight as the field you want to edit.
• Select “Set value” in the Type of edit.
• Write the new weight (0.5 for example).
• Select to edit only variations.
• Hit the “Execute now” button.

After that, you’ll see that all the product variations matching the search were modified, now they have the same weight.

You can do this for thousands of variations quickly.
