WooCommerce – Search for Variable Products Missing Variations

In this tutorial, we will show you how to search for WooCommerce variable products missing variations. Sometimes, we create a bunch of variable products and forget to add attributes and/or variations. Sometimes, we import products from a CSV file and the variations are not imported correctly, so we end up with a lot of variable products without variations.

Whatever the case, finding variable products without variations can be hard, because we would normally have to open the products and check them one by one.

Fortunately, with WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products, you can run advanced, combined searches using any field as a search filter. This plugin allows you to view and manage your WooCommerce products using a spreadsheet interface.

After installing the plugin and activating your license, you need to follow the steps below in order to search for WooCommerce variable products missing variations.

Open the products spreadsheet

To open the products’ spreadsheet, go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit Products.

You’ll see all your WooCommerce products displayed on the spreadsheet.

Open the “Search” tool

The Search tool allows you to run advanced searches using any WooCommerce product field as a search filter.

You can search for products by keyword, category, attribute, product type, product visibility, product author / vendor, price, date, stock, stock status, etc.

In this case, it will allow us to find all the variable products that have no variations.

Search for variable products missing variations

Something important: WooCommerce variable products cannot have variations without attributes. In WooCommerce, attributes are essential for creating variations of a variable product. Variations are different combinations of product attributes, such as size, color, material, etc.

Therefore, to know which products have no variations, we need to search for variable products by product type (variable) and make sure these attributes have no attributes (product attributes = empty).

On the Search tool, you just have to select these values:

• Enter product type: Variable
• Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
• Field: Product Attributes
• Operator: =
• Value: Leave this field empty.
• Click on Run search.

After running the search for products without attributes, you will see all products in the spreadsheet.

As mentioned, products without attributes = products without variations.

You can check that the filtered products have no variations by clicking on the “Display variations” tool. You will see that only products are displayed, but no variations are shown.

Search for variable products containing variations

Another way to make sure that the previously filtered products have no variations is to run the opposite search, i.e., to search for products in which the “Product Attributes” field is not empty.

You just need to select these values in the Search tool:

• Enter product type: Variable
• Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
• Field: Product Attributes
• Operator: !=
• Value: Leave this field empty.
• Click on Run search.

As you can see, we have filtered out all the products that do have attributes, and when we look at the spreadsheet, we will see that the variations are shown next to the parent product.

Searching for WooCommerce products missing variations is really simple with WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products. You just have to search for the products that have no attributes.
