Why automate WordPress SEO with AI
Writing a good SEO title and meta description for one post doesn’t take long. Doing the same thing for a few hundred or even a few thousand posts is a different story. Every title and description needs to stay within the recommended character limits, include the right keyword naturally, and give people a reason to click when they see your page in the search results.
AI can speed up this process by giving you a useful first draft for many posts at once. You still have control over the final result: AI handles the initial writing, you review the suggestions, and you can adjust anything that doesn’t quite fit. Important: When you use the Bulk Edit tool, you can preview the result for a row before applying the changes. If everything looks good, you can apply the changes to all the filtered rows. If something needs to be changed, adjust the prompt before executing the bulk edit. Bulk edits are applied directly to the database, so review the preview carefully before proceeding.
The same workflow works regardless of where your focus keyword is stored. It can be Yoast’s focus keyphrase, Rank Math’s focus keyword, SEOPress’s analysis target keyword, or AIOSEO’s focus keyphrase. You simply reference the appropriate field when generating the metadata.
What you need to bulk manage SEO fields with AI
We assume you already have an SEO plugin installed and active, such as Yoast SEO, Rank Math SEO, All In One SEO (AIOSEO), or SEOPress. Beyond that, you need three things to generate and manage SEO data with AI in your spreadsheet.

AI prompts for generating SEO titles and descriptions
The quality of the AI output depends a lot on the prompt you give it. The prompts below assume your posts already have a title, content, and target keyword, so they reference the corresponding Title, Content, and SEO keyword fields. Try them with a few of your own posts first and adjust the wording as needed. Every site has a different audience and tone, so you may get better results by tailoring the prompts to match your content.
Prompt for generating SEO titles
Use this prompt to generate a search-facing title for a post. Replace $Keyword field$ with the name of your plugin’s keyword column:
Generate a concise, engaging SEO title (50-60 characters) based on the $Title$ and $Content$, ensuring it includes the $Keyword field$. The title should be natural and compelling. Return plain text, free of quotation marks or unnecessary punctuation.
Prompt for generating SEO descriptions
Use this prompt to generate a meta description. Replace the two placeholders with your plugin’s title and keyword columns:
Generate a compelling SEO description based on the $SEO Title field$ and $Content$, including the $Keyword field$. The description should be engaging, summarize the key points of the post, and encourage reader interest. Keep it under 155 characters for optimal search engine visibility. Return plain text only.
Note on placeholder formatting: Make sure the placeholder matches the field name exactly as it appears in your spreadsheet, including the spacing and punctuation, and wrap it in dollar signs. Some plugins may use slightly different versions of the field name. For example, you might see $AIOSEO Focus Keyphrase$ or $AIO: Focus Keyphrase$. If a prompt returns nothing or produces an empty result, go back to your spreadsheet, copy the exact column header, and paste it between the dollar signs.
Global prompts
Instead of retyping these prompts every time, you can save them as global prompts and use them with a simple shortcut.
Go to WP Sheet Editor > AI > Settings > Prompts, then click on Add new.
Now fill in the details for each prompt:
- Name: Choose a name that’s easy to remember, such as “SEO Title” or “SEO Description.” Once you save the prompt, WP Sheet Editor automatically creates a prompt slug that you can use as a shortcut, such as
ai:seo-titleorai:seo-description. - Prompt: Enter the prompt text and replace the placeholders with the appropriate fields from your SEO plugin.
- Click on Save.
Create the two global prompts first: one for SEO titles and one for meta descriptions. Once you save them, you can use both shortcuts from any WP Sheet Editor spreadsheet.
If you manage multiple sites that use different SEO plugins, keep in mind that these prompts are specific to each site. The placeholders need to match the exact column names used on the site where you’re running the prompt.
Open your WordPress posts spreadsheet
To start generating SEO titles and descriptions with AI, open the spreadsheet that contains your posts.
Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit posts. You’ll see your posts displayed in the spreadsheet, with each field in its own column, including the SEO columns added by your plugin.
Generate SEO titles and descriptions with AI in the spreadsheet
If you prefer working directly in the spreadsheet, you can trigger AI using the ai:prompt-slug shortcut. This is a quick way to generate metadata for a handful of posts without opening the Bulk Edit tool.
Meta titles
To generate SEO titles, enter the shortcut for your title prompt in the cells of your plugin’s SEO Title column. Depending on your SEO plugin, this might be SEO Title in Yoast, Rank Math Title, AIO: Title, or Seopress Titles Title.
In this example, the prompt slug is “seo-title”, so you would enter:
ai:seo-title
Note: You can also paste a full prompt directly into a cell instead of using a saved shortcut. For example:

The downside of using full prompts is that you have to type or paste the entire prompt into each cell. That’s why a saved shortcut is usually the more practical option when you’re working with multiple posts.
Once you enter the shortcut, the AI starts processing the request. A loading icon will appear in the cell for a few seconds while it generates the result.
Once the process is complete, the AI-generated SEO title will appear directly in the cell. That’s it. You now have your first SEO title generated with AI.
To generate SEO titles for multiple posts at once, paste the same shortcut into the relevant cells in the SEO Title column. WP Sheet Editor will process each row containing the shortcut and generate a title for that post.
Once the SEO titles have been generated, save the changes so they are stored in your database.
Meta descriptions
Generating SEO descriptions works the same way as generating titles. The only thing you need to change is the shortcut you use. Paste ai:seo-description into the cells of your plugin’s SEO Description column. The shortcut should match the slug of the description prompt you saved.
In this example, we’ve pasted the ai:seo-description shortcut into several cells at once, so the AI can generate descriptions for multiple posts.
Once the descriptions are generated, save the changes so they are stored in your database.
Bulk generate WordPress SEO metadata with AI
If you don’t want to work through your posts row by row, you can also generate SEO data with AI using the Bulk Edit tool. This is especially useful when you have a large number of posts missing SEO metadata and want to update them all at once.
In this example, we’ll search for posts that are missing SEO titles and descriptions, then use AI to fill in the missing values. When using the Search and Bulk Edit tools, make sure you select your plugin’s field name from the table earlier in this guide.
This is all possible thanks to WP Sheet Editor’s Bulk AI API, which lets you process hundreds of AI requests at once.
Bulk generate SEO titles with AI
Start by finding all the WordPress posts that are missing an SEO title. Open the Search tool.
Now select these values to find all posts without an SEO title:
- Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
- Field: Select your plugin’s title column.

- Value: Leave this field empty.
- Click on Run search.
Once the search finishes, the spreadsheet will show only the posts that are missing an SEO title. The active search filters will appear above the spreadsheet so you can see exactly which posts are included.
