In this tutorial, we will show you how to bulk delete WooCommerce product variations. We will do it without removing the parent products. To do this, we will use the WP Sheet Editor – WooCommerce Products plugin. It allows you to view and manage your WooCommerce products and variations in a spreadsheet.
Table of Contents
If instead of deleting variations you want to just disable them, you can disable the Variation enabled checkbox in the spreadsheet or in bulk. Here’s a tutorial on how to bulk disable variations.
You can download the plugin here:
Download WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet Plugin - or - Check the features
After you install and activate the plugin, you need to follow the steps below in order to bulk delete WooCommerce variations using WP Sheet Editor.
1. Open the WooCommerce Products Spreadsheet
Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit Products. You’ll see your WooCommerce products in a spreadsheet where you can search, select, edit, and delete products and variations.
2. Display the WooCommerce Product Variations
Click Display variations on the toolbar to show product variations next to their parent products as individual rows in the spreadsheet.
You can now select or filter the variations you want to delete.
3. Select the WooCommerce Variations to Delete
You can bulk delete all variations, remove specific variations, or use search filters to find the variations you want to remove.
Option A. Delete All WooCommerce Product Variations
If you want to delete every variation in your WooCommerce store, you don’t need to select or filter any rows.
Proceed to Step 4 and apply the bulk deletion to all variations using the Edit only variations option.
Option B. Delete Selected Product Variations
To delete specific variations, use the checkboxes on the left side of the spreadsheet to select the variation rows you want to remove.
Once you’ve selected the variations, proceed to Step 4.
Option C. Search for Variations to Delete in Bulk
You can also bulk delete WooCommerce variations that match specific search filters, such as keyword, category, attribute, creation date, price, or missing image.
Click Search on the spreadsheet toolbar.
Here are five ways to find variations before deleting them.
Delete WooCommerce Variations by Keyword
To find variations containing a specific keyword:
- Enter the keyword in Contains keyword.
- Enable Search on variations?.
- Click Run search.
Delete Product Variations by Category or Attribute
To remove variations associated with a specific product category, tag, or attribute:
- Enter the category, tag, or attribute in Enter Product Categories, Product tags, or Product attributes.
- Enable Search on variations?.
- Click Run search.
Delete Product Variations by Date Range
You can find and delete variations created during a specific period, for example, after importing incorrect variation data.
- Enable Search on variations?.
- Enable Advanced filters.
- Enter the date range you want to search.
- Click Run search.
Delete WooCommerce Variations by Price
To find variations with a specific regular price, enable Search on variations? and Advanced filters, then enter:
- Field: Regular price (_regular_price)
- Operator: =
- Value: The regular price you want to find, such as 19.99
Click Run search.
Delete WooCommerce Variations Without Images
To find variations with an empty featured image field, enable Search on variations? and Advanced filters, then use:
- Field: Featured image (_featured_image)
- Operator: =
- Value: Leave empty
Click Run search.
If you want to add images instead of deleting these variations, see our tutorial on how to bulk upload images to WooCommerce variations.
After running your search, review the results and continue to the bulk deletion process.
4. Bulk Delete WooCommerce Variations Without Deleting Parent Products
Once you’ve selected or filtered the product variations, click Bulk Edit on the toolbar.
Configure the Bulk Edit tool with these values:
- Select the rows that you want to update: Choose Edit all the rows from my current search (including non-visible rows) to delete all variations or those matching your search filters. If you manually selected variations, choose Edit the rows that I selected manually in the spreadsheet.
- What field do you want to edit: Status.
- Select type of edit: Set value.
- Replace existing value with this value: Delete completely. You can also select Trash if you want to move the variations to the trash.
- Edit only variations: Enable this checkbox to delete variations without deleting their parent products.
- Click Execute Now.
Important: Always enable Edit only variations. This prevents the bulk deletion from affecting parent products. Back up your store before permanently deleting variations.
WP Sheet Editor will delete the targeted variations in bulk while keeping their parent products in your catalog.
5. Alternative: Delete Variations Directly in the Spreadsheet
If you only need to remove a few WooCommerce product variations, you can delete them directly from the spreadsheet without using Bulk Edit.
- Find the variation rows you want to delete.
- Go to the Status column.
- Select Delete completely or Trash for each variation.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
