Let’s learn how to bulk generate Rank Math SEO titles and descriptions with AI. As you may know, writing SEO titles and meta descriptions for hundreds of WordPress posts is a slow task. If you use the WordPress Rank Math SEO plugin, you have to manually open each page to write metadata, which take hours or even days. Fortunately, there’s a faster and more efficient approach; you can use generative AI to create optimized Rank Math SEO titles and descriptions in bulk.

With WP Sheet Editor – AI, you can view all your Rank Math SEO fields in a spreadsheet, connect to an AI provider like OpenAI or OpenRouter, and let a large language model generate titles and descriptions across dozens or thousands of posts at once. This allows you to:

  • Keep full control over the prompts
  • Preview results before saving
  • Do all this right from the WordPress dashboard

Tools bulk manage Rank Math SEO fields with AI

We assume you already have the Rank Math SEO plugin installed and activated on your WordPress site.

1. WP Sheet Editor – Post Types

This plugin lets you view and manage WordPress posts, pages, and custom post types using an intuitive spreadsheet. It includes advanced search, bulk edit, export, and import tools. If you already have it, you can skip this.

2. WP Sheet Editor – AI

This is a WordPress AI assistant service that brings generative AI into every WP Sheet Editor spreadsheet. You can connect with different AI providers and language models and use artificial intelligence across all spreadsheets in the WP Sheet Editor suite. It supports cell-level editing, bulk operations, and saved global prompts you can reuse with simple shortcuts.

3. External API provider

The AI functionality in WP Sheet Editor relies on an external API like OpenAI, OpenRouter, or any provider that follows the OpenAI API format. You need an account with the provider and an API key to connect.

WP Sheet Editor – AI is compatible with these AI providers:

Follow this guide to learn how to set up AI providers in WP Sheet Editor – AI.

AI prompts for generating SEO titles and descriptions

The quality of your AI-generated metadata depends almost entirely on the prompt you use. A vague prompt produces generic output, while a specific prompt that references your content and your target keyword produces metadata that actually matches what the page delivers.

Below are two prompts designed to work with WP Sheet Editor – AI. They reference column values from your spreadsheet: $Title$, $Content$, and $Rank Math Focus Keyword$. This way, the AI reads the actual data from each row before generating the output, so every title and description is unique to that page.

AI prompt for generating Rank Math SEO titles

Use this prompt to create concise, keyword-rich SEO titles:

Generate a concise, engaging SEO title (50-60 characters) based on the $Title$ and $Content$, ensuring it includes the $Rank Math Focus Keyword$. The title should be natural and compelling. Return plain text, free of quotation marks or unnecessary punctuation.

AI prompt for generating Rank Math SEO descriptions

Use this prompt for meta descriptions:

Generate a compelling SEO description based on the $Rank Math Title$ and $Content$, including the $Rank Math Focus Keyword$. The description should be engaging, summarize the key points of the post, and encourage reader interest. Keep it under 155 characters for optimal search engine visibility. Return plain text only.

You can customize these prompts however you want.

Saving prompts as global prompts for reuse

Once you have prompts you like, save them as global prompts so you can reuse them with a simple shortcut instead of retyping the full prompt every time.

Go to WP Sheet Editor > AI > Settings > Prompts.

Once there, click on Add new.

Now you need to add the prompts:

  • Name: Add prompt names that are easy to remember, like “SEO Title” and “SEO Description”. This is important because once you save the changes, each prompt will automatically generate a prompt slug that you can use as a shortcut in the spreadsheet, like ai:seo-title or ai:seo-description.
  • Prompt: Enter the prompt text here.
  • Click on Save.

Having both prompts saved as global shortcuts means you can switch between generating titles and descriptions in seconds, without ever opening the settings panel again.

Open the WordPress posts spreadsheet

Important: WP Sheet Editor works with posts, pages, WooCommerce products, and any other custom post type. In this example, we will use the WordPress posts spreadsheet.

Go to WP Sheet Editor > Edit posts, and you will see all your posts listed in the spreadsheet.

The columns include your standard WordPress fields (title, content, date, status) alongside Rank Math SEO columns like Rank Math Title, Rank Math Description, and Rank Math Focus Keyword, and any other custom fields added by other plugins.

If you are working with custom post types like WooCommerce products, portfolio items, or course lessons, you can access those spreadsheets from the WP Sheet Editor menu as well. The process for generating SEO metadata is identical regardless of the post type.

Generate Rank Math SEO titles with AI in individual spreadsheet cells

With your global prompts saved, go to the Rank Math Title column and start generating SEO titles. You have two options for invoking the AI:

  1. Use the global prompt’s shortcut. Type ai:prompt-slug, replacing prompt-slug with the actual slug of your global prompt. For example, if your prompt slug is seo-title, type ai:seo-title in the cells of the Rank Math Title column.
  2. Use the full prompt. Type ai:prompt, replacing prompt with the complete prompt text. This is useful for one-off generations where you do not want to create a saved global prompt.

In this example, we will use the ai:seo-title shortcut to generate our SEO titles with generative AI.

Typing the ai:seo-title prompt shortcut into a Rank Math Title cell in the spreadsheet

While the AI is working, you will see a loading icon in the cell. And when it finishes, the generated SEO title appears in the cell.

You can generate multiple SEO titles across the spreadsheet by pasting the prompt or prompt shortcut into multiple cells at once.

Just select a range of cells, paste the prompt/prompt shortcut, and the AI processes each row independently using that row’s own title, content, and focus keyword.

Bulk generate Rank Math SEO titles with AI

When you need to generate SEO titles for hundreds of posts at once, the cell-by-cell method works but the Bulk Edit tool is faster.

It lets you update any field across thousands of posts in a single operation thanks to our Bulk AI API. The key is filtering your posts first so the AI only runs on the rows that actually need new titles.

Start by opening the Search tool to filter posts that are missing an SEO title.

Now select these values in the Search tool to find posts without an SEO title:

  • Tick the Enable advanced filters checkbox.
  • Field: Rank Math Title
  • Operator: =
  • Value: Leave this field empty.
  • Click on Run search.

After filtering the posts you want to edit, open the Bulk Edit tool.

Now select these values to generate the SEO titles using AI. You have two options for how to supply the prompt:

Option 1: Using a global prompt

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search.
  • What field do you want to edit: Rank Math Title
  • Select type of edit: Choose a pre-saved global prompt. In this example, we select our saved SEO title prompt, displayed as AI command: SEO Title. This way, you do not have to type the prompt again.
  • AI Provider: If you have configured multiple providers, select the one you want to use for this task.
  • Click Show preview to see the results before saving.
  • Click Execute Now and the AI will start generating your SEO titles.

You can use the Show preview button before executing to spot-check a sample of generated titles for accuracy, keyword inclusion, and character length. If the output does not look right, you can adjust your prompt and preview again before running the bulk update.

Option 2: Using a full prompt in the Bulk Edit tool

  • Select the rows that you want to update: Edit all the rows from my current search.
  • What field do you want to edit: Rank Math Title
  • Select type of edit: AI prompt
  • AI Provider: If you have configured multiple providers, select the one you want to use.
  • Prompt: Enter the full prompt here. This is the right option when you want to test a prompt variation without saving it as a global prompt first.
  • Click Show preview to verify the output.
  • Click Execute Now and the AI will start generating your SEO titles.

Generate SEO descriptions with AI in spreadsheet cells

The process for generating meta descriptions follows the same pattern as titles. Go to the Rank Math Description column and start generating AI-powered SEO descriptions. You have the same two options:

  • Use the global prompt’s shortcut. Type ai:prompt-slug, replacing prompt-slug with the actual slug of your global prompt. If your prompt slug is “seo-description”, type ai:seo-description in the cells of the Rank Math Description column.
  • Use the full prompt. Type ai:prompt, replacing prompt with the complete prompt text.

In this example, we will use the ai:seo-description shortcut to generate descriptions.

Typing the ai:seo-description prompt shortcut into a Rank Math Description cell in the spreadsheet

The AI will process the request. A loading icon appears in the cell for a few seconds, and then the generated SEO description replaces the shortcut text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this method for custom post types and WooCommerce products?

Yes. WP Sheet Editor provides spreadsheets for every post type on your site, including WooCommerce products, portfolio items, course lessons, and any custom post type registered by your theme or plugins.

What happens if a post does not have a focus keyword set in Rank Math?

The AI will still generate a title and description based on the post title and content alone, but the output may be less targeted. The prompt references $Rank Math Focus Keyword$ as a variable. If that field is empty, the AI typically works around it or substitutes a relevant term from the content. You can improve results by filtering for posts with missing focus keywords first, filling them in manually or using a separate AI prompt designed for keyword research, and then running the SEO title and description generation afterward.

How do I review AI-generated SEO titles and descriptions before they go live?

You have two built-in review mechanisms. For cell-level generation, the AI output appears directly in the spreadsheet cell. You can read and edit it inline before clicking Save. Unsaved changes are visually marked. For bulk generation, the Show preview button in the Bulk Edit tool displays a sample of what the AI will produce across your selected rows. If the preview does not meet your standards, close the tool, adjust the prompt in your global prompt settings, and preview again. Nothing is written to the database until you click Execute Now.

Can I use different prompts for different post categories or post types?

Yes. You can save multiple global prompts, each with its own slug. For example, you might have ai:seo-title-blog for blog posts and ai:seo-title-products for WooCommerce products. When working in the spreadsheet, filter by category or post type first, then apply the relevant prompt shortcut or bulk edit command. This approach keeps your metadata aligned with the content type and audience expectations of each section of your site.

Will this overwrite existing Rank Math SEO titles and descriptions?

Only if you explicitly apply the AI prompt to rows that already have values.
